Say it ain't so, John....well, the real world happens to us all some time.

Bandita Paula,
Many thanks for your kind words of support and encouragement. You'll
never how much they mean to me. But alas, it's true! I can't stay locked
up in this lab perched on top of an ivory tower forever. I have plans,
but as with everything else with me, it will take a long time before they
come to fruition. You're not rid of me yet, but to be on the safe side,
I've decided to transfer the list and (next) the web pages to new homes.
I think eGroups is an excellent service. I don't know how they make any
money, but that's their problem. I wanted the name "banditos" for the list,
but someone beat me to it by two days. I was kicking myself that I hadn't
done it sooner. I toyed with the idea of using "weisbeckersbanditos" but
felt it would be too unwieldy so I settled for "netbanditos" instead. If
"banditos" ever comes up for grabs again, I'll switch.
In fact, I noticed that some of you are eGroup members already. In which
case, you'll no doubt be familiar with its array of options. For newbies, I
recommend that you not delete the message you got from eGroups informing you
that you'd been added to the Net Banditos list. It contains your password
and you'll need it to log on to the site.
Once you've logged on, you can, for instance, go to the Files sections of
the list. I've uploaded three images and placed them in a folder called
Pictures. They include the cover of ACW's new book. He told me (with a
little hint of pride) that he took the picture himself.
Hmm... looking over the archives just now, I realised I made a bit of a
gaffe. ACW sent me a message on the 5th of August. I forwarded it to the
list on the 8th. The next day, I get an e-mail from Allan saying (among
other things):
And, actually, my announcement was a bit premature: NAL wants to wait a
bit -- closer to pub date - before letting the feline out of the sack. So
mums the word for a bit.
Oops! So don't go putting it about too far and wide about CB being
republished or I could be in big guano with the big kahuna.
In other news, a package arrived today from my Canadian procurer of rare
books, Al Navis. He managed to obtain an Advance Reading Copy of CB. I saw
it on the Web and bought it at once. I've wanted an ARC for a long time and
the one I got is in very good condition. The bad news is it cost US$245!
Am I insane?
Well, that's just about it for now except to say that I'll be uploading
the archive of the old list to the Files section "in the near future." One
version for PCs (compressed using zip) and one for Unix (gzip). Mac users
can fend for themselves,
later, John.
