2. Baja California.

Baja California is a peninsula along the Pacific Coast of North America. It is a mountainous land with  sparse vegetation, mostly cacti and other succulents.  Sometimes it's called the Forgotten Peninsula because it has a  very small population ; towns and several cities are located only along the coasts. We heard some local legends saying that native tribes still live over the mountains and once a year they come down to towns to buy some supplies. Although designated on most maps as a Gulf of California, in the Mexico the gulf is called the Sea of Cortez (in the name of Hernan Cortez, famous conquistador). The gulf coastline is rocky, steep-faced, beaches are small, but very good. The underwater life is abundant: colorful fishes, crabs, oysters, corals. And the important thing: the water is still very warm in late autumn.

Here is a report about our trip to Baja California.
