Where should I stay in Pangkor?

There are plenty of places to stay in Pangkor. Apart from the 3 main resorts, the tourist accommodation is found mainly along two beaches, Pasir Bogak and Teluk Nipah. Starting with the most expensive...

Pangkor Laut Resort

This resort is actually not on Pangkor Island but another small island off the west coast of Pangkor called Pangkor Laut. The island is a private island, wholly owned by the Resort and so very exclusive. If you are looking for five star accommodation, this is the only resort on either island which offers it. In fact, apparently has won some Conde Nast travel award. Be prepared to pay as much as RM$800 per room.

I won't go into any more detail because there are plenty of other websites around which talk about the resort.

Pan Pacific Resort Pangkor

This is the second best resort on the island. It is a four star resort, with their own golf course, private beach and jetty. It is located on the nothern tip of the island, relatively far away from the more populated parts of the island. Again, there are plenty of websites around which will tell you about the resort. Prices are around RM$300 to $400.

Teluk Dalam Resort

This is also a four star resort but a tier down from Pan Pacific. In my view, this resort offers the best value for money, especially if you are on a budget. This was also were I wanted to stay originally but it turned out to be fully booked on the day I wanted to arrive. One word of warning about the official Internet booking website at - THEY DON'T RESPOND! After sending them my booking request, they did not reply. When I called the hotel up after 48 hours, the hotel told me that they had no record of my request. So my advice is to call up the hotel directly if you want to be sure, forget about the website.

Pantai Pasir Bogak

This is the main beach on Pangkor. It is the most built up area on Pangkor apart from Pangkor town. There are lots of small hotels, chalets, seafood restaurants and tourist shops. The tourists who stay here are mostly Malaysians. And probably because it is so populated, the beach is not very clean.

I stayed here during my stay in Pangkor, at a hotel called Coral Bay Resort. The name is a misnomer because it is for one, not a resort. When I think of a resort I think of huge grounds, with gardens, beach front chalets and so on. Rather Coral Bay Resort is a multi storey building with rooms and a small children-infested swimming pool. It is not on the beach. To get to the beach, you will have to walk out of the hotel. Also, unlike what its name suggests, you will not find any corals at the beach near the hotel. Having said that, it is not a bad hotel if you keep in mind that it is essentially a 3 star hotel. The rooms are quite big, clean and equipped with all the necessary amenities. The biggest plus point are the many eating outlets around the hotel, so you will never run out of places to eat. If shopping is your things there are a couple of shops just next to the hotel where you can buy the usual touristy knick knacks and the island's main produce - dried fish!

Teluk Nipah

If the only thing you care about is the beach, then this is the place for you. Teluk Nipah has the best beach on Pangkor. There are no big resorts here. The accommodation is mostly backpacker style, which means that it is basic. There is one main road running through Teluk Nipah. On one side of the road is the beach and on the other side are rows upon rows of wooden guesthouses. This is where you will find most of the Caucasions. So by that, I assume that conditions are not too bad.
