[X] Elves[X] Men[X] Hobbits[X] Istaris [X] Dwarves

General Info

The elves are one of the oldest races that live in Middle-Earth. Soon, they will leave Middle-Earth, because their time on this world has come to an end. They will sail to the immortal lands, together with the Ringbearers and Gandalf.

The first Elves awoke by Cuivienen , the Water of Awakening in the far east of Middle-earth, long Ages before the Rising of the Sun or Moon. Unlike Men, the Elves were not subject to illness or death, and at the time of the Lord of the Rings, there were still at least two Elves in Aman who had awoken by Cuivinen in the first days, Ingw Lord of the Vanyar, and Olw brother of King Elu Thingol.

Both Elves and Men are the Children of Iluvatar, and so have much in common, but there are also great differences between the two peoples. Of these, the most significant is that Elves are 'immortal', at least while the World lasts; they do not suffer ageing or disease, and if they are slain or wither with grief, they are reincarnated in the Halls of Mandos in Valinor.

Elves have astounding hearing and sight, it has been said that they sleep with their eyes open 0_0 and can walk on snow(as demonstrated by Legolas in FOTR movie).

Arwen/Liv

Family:Father(Elrond), Mother(Celebrian), Grand parents(Galadriel and Celeborn), Twin Brothers(Elladan and Elrohir).

Location:Arwen lived both in Imladris (Rivendell) and Lothlorien

History:During a visit to Imladris, she met Aragorn. He thought her to be Luthien and loved her at once. She was very much like Luthien, so it does not surprise me that he did this. She was called the Evenstar, or Undomiel by her people. Arwen wore a white jewel on her neck, called the Evenstar/ Undomiel. This jewel had the powers to hurts from the Enemy, shadows from the past, which is why, after the Destruction of the Ring, she gave it to Frodo.

In 2980, Aragorn came to Lothlorien. Arwen felt a strong love for him, though the Doom of Men haunted her mind as she thought of her love. Aragorn knelt and offered her the Ring of Barahir. Although they were then betrothed, it wasn't for many years that they were finally together. Arwen's father, Elrond, told her that she would marry no less than the king of both Gondor and Arnor.

In 3019, Arwen sent a standard to him that was made of beautiful jewels and mithril from the Elves of Lothlorien. And then, finally , after waiting for many years, Arwen and Aragorn married on Midsummer's Day. Arwen gave birth to several daughters and one son, Eldarion. Aragorn died in 120 of the Fourth Age. Arwen then went to Lothlorien and died upon Cerin Amroth in 121.*sniffs* :(

Haldir/Craig

Name:Haldir of Lorien

Location:Lothlorien

Family:Brothers(Rmil and Orophin).

History: In the book, Haldir's first and only appearance happens in Chapter VI of "The Fellowship of the Ring". He introduces himself to Legolas, Sam and Frodo after bidding them to climb up into a talan. The Fellowship sans Gandalf have escaped from Moria and are well into LothLrien.

"Welcome!" the Elf then said in the Common Language, speaking slowly. "We seldom use any tongue but our own; for we dwell now in the heart of the forest, and do not willingly have dealings with any other folk. Even our own kindred in the North are sundered from us. But there are some of us still who go abroad for the gathering of news and the watching of our enemies, and they speak the languages of other lands. I am one. Haldir is my name. My brothers, Rmil and Orophin, speak little of your tongue."

The 'Lrien Elves are described as wearing "shadowy-grey" which makes them invisible unless they move suddenly, and they seem to have little of Elrond's hospitality. Perhaps wary of strangers and enemies, what with LothLrien being fairly close to Moria, it seems only fitting that they treat strangers with caution. However, there is little of the near animosity Haldir shows in the movie, and even his attitude toward Gimli is that of simple precaution. Noticably, the famous line

"The Dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark." isn't said to Gimli at all, but to Sam. Also, in the book it is revealed that messengers of Elrond passed by LothLrien on their way home up the Dimrill Stair, which means Haldir and his companions could indeed have been waiting for the Fellowship to make an appearance in the Golden Wood. It is also not said what exactly Haldir's function is - he and his brothers could be trackers, they could be hunters, or they could indeed by wardens or guardians of LothLrien.

As it is in the movie, not much of Haldir's character is revealed in the books; nor do we learn anything about his age, or even his appearance. Other than being clad in "shadowy-grey", his looks can be anyone's guess. Personally, I think Peter Jackson decided to give the character of Haldir a slight arrogant touch to further mark the open animosity between Elves and Dwarves, something that already showed in the relation between Gimli and Legolas at the Council of Elrond. .
