Simply put, The Chaotic Multiverse was an attempt at creating a new Sonic universe that would be developed and showcased in a series of fan fiction stories written by me. I was hoping to make a version of Sonic that others could not only enjoy, but could read and say, "Hey, that actually makes sense!" Unfortunately, as the years went by and the project grew in size and complexity, I began to realize that, in truth, it was simply never going to be. If I could make money off of the endevour - enough to feed and house myself, say - then it would be worth the time and effort that would be necessary to finish it, which would be . . . oh, approximately every single waking hour of my existance.
So, in the end, after several years of writing, rewriting, planning, devising, and diabolically scheming, I decided that I would have to shut the book, so to speak, on writing the fanfics. It was a painful decision, and one that I still hope very much that I can reverse someday, but for now it's pretty much final. However, instead of just letting this idea die, I have decided to instead compile all my notes and ideas on The Chaotic Multiverse here for all to see and comment on . . . and perhaps even help people who are stuck for ideas for their own Sonic fan fiction.
So why do this (as well as the topic-relevant Encyclopedia Mobius and Mobius RPG) when I don't think I have the time to write the fics themselves? Because in the end, writing a series of fanfics is a much more time-consuming and demanding task than simply giving background information on it a little at a time. Just trust me.
So, that's the "real world" explination of The Chaotic Multiverse. What it is within the context of the stories themselves is a little more . . . spectacular.
When the superverse was new, three of the beings responsible for its creation decided to do something a little unprecedented. Instead of staying outside the Chaos that the superverse was being molded from, they entered a small section of it and shaped it completely from within. They used it to create thousands of new dimensions and created the worlds of Mobius. Naming it the Ordered Multiverse, they set it apart from the leftover Chaos and began to experiment with their new creation.
As the eons went by, however, cracks began to form in the barrier between Chaos and Order, and the Chaotic energy wanted back what was rightfully its own . . . the very fabric of reality that comprised the Ordered Multiverse. Unfortunately, as powerful as the Ancient Walkers were, they simply couldn't run such an expansive experiment, plug every hole in the chaotic barrier, and fight off every invasion into their multiverse all at the same time. So to help them along, they set up one universe - the closest to the barrier - to serve as a blockade against chaotic attacks.
It was dubbed Champion Mobius, and a fair share of the energy allocated the Ordered Multiverse was given over to it. Accordingly, the Mobians that arose on this planet were stronger, smarter, and more capable than those in the other universes. The most powerful mutates and wizards were born on Champion Mobius, and it was the Ancient Walkers' hopes that they would be ready to repel the invading Chaos when the time came.
And that time did indeed come, and they were ready. Led primarily by the greatest warrior across all the Ordered Multiverse, Sonic the Hedgehog, the denizens of Champion Mobius managed to hold back the invaders time and again. The stories of their triumphs and downfalls are what comprises The Chaotic Multiverse saga.
So, intrigued yet? Boy, I hope so, 'cause I don't want to have gone to all the trouble of setting these pages up if you're not. In any case, I'm ready to get this shindig started when you are . . . let's move on to The Story Behind the Story . . .
