315. Xtreme Verbier Event

Is it really one week ago when we met in Verbier? This time Robert and Mike (a.k.a. Conny J) collected me in Lindau (Lake of Konstanz) to drive to this Event. It is really hard to get to Verbier with public transport system. So it was for me not the direct way from A to B but it was easier and faster. And we did a very special thing to cross the Alps… with a “car-train”… what is the right word ? You drive with your car on a flat-wagon, you stay in the car and the train passes the mountain in a tunnel. On the other side you drive off the wagon and join the normal street again. You can see it as an adventure.

We arrived late but in time (remember Milano) it was hard to find the Chalet Dryades in Verbier although some Swatch-signs were done on the street, we searched in Verbier around 30 minutes. Wow, this time not a hotel, but a very nice (private ?) “Home” was booked for us.

While Patrick gave us the latest information about this event we all got the Xtreme Verbier Snowpass Swatch, some other “goodies” (highlight an binocular !) we already found on our beds. Ah, interesting information… some people had to stay in a 5-bed-room. Sounds strange, but was ok, the beds were on two levels, and everyone had enough space in my opinion. On the ground floor 2 Swiss people, upstairs 2 Italian and myself. Greetings to Patrick, Werner, Franco and Giuliu. Did you had other impressions? Well, I don’t saw the Italians sleeping! The nights were really short.

We started with a walk approx. 30 minutes uphill (!), the dinner was deserved…in the Restaurant “Le Carrefour” and good, of course. “Autruche” was the word of the Event (insider joke). Downhill we did a sledge race… what a fun! Hard snow - hard bones – hard men! But then I preferred the bed, other guys went to town.

Saturday morning a breakfast was served, as good as in a hotel. 4 hours snowboarding followed, in my snowboard-jacket I found an bill from Park Hotels Waldhaus Laax issued in 2000 (of course a SWATCH-Event) – seemed it was the last time I was boarding ?! Muscular ache was the result and it was good not to do snowboarding the whole day. In Verbier-City a Swatch-Igloo was built, here we met at 4 p.m. to buy Swatches (did you expect something different?), to drink hot wine and to join a signing-session done by four Swatch Pro Team Members: Géraldine Fasnacht, Eva “xxx” (her name is not on the Pro-Team-List and she signed only “xxx” instead of an surname ?!), Ueli Kestenholz and Xavier de le Rue attended. And signed, and signed and signed… very patient – thank you. And maybe “xxx” is also a name, I don’t know.

In a Restaurant called “le Hameau” we joined dinner. Meanwhile the Swiss members which only booked the one-day-package came to the group. Typical Swiss food, Raclette, Fondue or alternate “Emincé de veau Zürichois” (again I miss the English word, sorry) were served. Delicious is my comment. But what followed… you will not believe: Swatch sponsored an evening in the most attractive club in Verbier, and for every “Snowpass”-Swatch (formerly known as Access) there was a drink for free. Not a normal “small” drink, but a real big shaker. I think they calculated wrong, I had only three Snowpass Swatches with me, but some other people…think about hundreds… we were really drunk from all the free drinks but had a lot of fun. No, I don’t show pictures here from this evening – they are for some persons too embarrassing. At 3 o’clock the brave Germans went to bed, Patrick organized a Taxi. (For free or the account of Swatch?)

We were fit 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning, to join again breakfast. We decided not to go uphill because we were not sure if the Xtreme Snowboard contest took place or not. In the city we spent some money for gifts and a café. At noon we left with a lot of new impressions and a good mood.

Thanks to the organizers for just another nice event.

Rumours said something about an event dedicated to the Phil Collins Swatches, and this will not be on a Friday in Munich… sorry, but again Munich (meanwhile this town is boring, there a lot of other big towns in the southwest of Germany only to remember you to Stuttgart) and on a Friday… I’m not able to join. But anyway I’m interested in the Special package they will have according “Travelling Kaleidoscope”.

We’ll meet us again soon !
