314. "World Museum" Milano

(This report is best viewed with Netscape Navigator !)

… when we joined this weekend for the Grand opening of the “World Museum” in Cesano Maderno, a lot of people in Milano and the suburbs showed this flag – PACE – or international: PEACE. A good idea and very impressive.

Starting in Stuttgart 11:40 p.m. by train, we meet in Munich 04:00 a.m. Saturday morning and finally arrived in Cesano Maderno 09:30 a.m. A long but interesting trip. Thanks to R.B. for “collecting” me in Munich by car.

We were the first members in the Hotel, got our rooms and decided to travel by train to the city centre of Milan. Unfortunately by my mistake (switched left and right) we arrived at the train-station with a little delay… the train left 5 minutes earlier – we had to wait around 30 minutes for the next departure. In a coffee-shop we bridged this break. Arrived in Milan we only had around 1 hour for shopping and walking from Stazione Cadorna to Stazione Centrale. You have to know… on this way is one normal Swatch store, one “Jelly Fish”-store, a CD-Shop (had to find an special Italian CD which is not available in Germany), and the Spiga Store. We crossed the Piazza Duomo, saw the famous galleria and the Piazza della Repubblica – nearly a sightseeing-tour. But: the result: we came 5 minutes later than announced to the meeting place. Sorry guys, you had to wait for the Germans – normally it is the other way round J.

With a bus back to Cesano Maderno all people checked in, soon it was time for a buffet sponsored by Arch. Barindelli which is the “Presidente” of the World Museum and the owner of the Swatch collection shown there. The opening of the museum and the possibility to buy a special packaging of the “Black Sheep Too” was expected by all members. The museum is in an old renovated palazzo, a good place for a good collection. In this collection I saw the first time real a prototype of the Mozart, another thing which was very interesting for me was the Tickertape variants. You may know this were Swatch No. 2 and 3 in my little collection. A lot of insiders missed special packages, for the “normal” visitor of this museum the different styles of the Swatch is interesting, the collectors know the styles – and the packages.

Next stop was Palazzo Arese Borromeo, nearby the museum on the way back to the hotel. We got a guided tour there to see interesting wall-paintings. A bit of free-time we joined a bar later on in the hotel the obligatory trades were done. Soon it was time to leave for dinner. Find here the menu-card. Yet another point to join all the Swatch-Events is the very good food every time.

Sunday morning the group had a guided tour in Milan, starting Castello Sforzesco, via the Dome, the galleria, the Scala to a statue made by Arnaldo Pomodoro (this was a special wish by a member… he wears the “Rotor” normally) to… - Reader: you should know what you get in this street in Milano. Saturday it was not allowed to take photos in the store, Saturday some people got no cufflinks (I got a pair) and no “Mother Day”-Special… Sunday it was possible to shoot photos, cufflinks were available and everyone were allowed to purchase a “Mother Day”-Special. And some of us got two, because the organisation was swatch-like. First time order on the left side of the reception desk, ten minutes later order on the right side of the cashier-desk. I only wanted to test this, and it worked. Both I gave already for the normal retail-price to some friends. I don’t like the style of this skin. Therefore also no photo.

On the way to the brunch, the final part of this weekend, we went to the “Jelly Fish”-store. Nothing very special in this shop, and all the money were already spent at Spiga store. The brunch was very fine, best basis for a long trip back home… this time with famous Andreas Wiethoff (Thank you – this time you will not find dead links) to Karlsruhe. The voyage back was also around 8 hours, it was a very busy weekend. But I don’t wanted to miss it.

Give peace a chance and see you in Verbier!
