Same as in
Berlin – Travelling Vendome –
the author of this report has to be for some reasons anonymous, but be sure it
is a first hand report.
Starting with a
welcome drink in the Hotel Europa, Patrick
introduced Alexandra Hebeisen as a new member of the Swatch The Club
Organisation-Team. He also told us something related to the Event and we all
got our name badges. All the information in English, Italian, French and German
– I’m very impressed about people who speak all this languages fluently.
Also fluent was
the mulled claret we drunk at the Christmas-market around the Chinese tower in
the English Garden which we joined first. After this trip the next step was
dinner at famous Munich Hofbräuhaus. The Germans closed their ears, but the
Americans, the Italians and all the other foreign people where really happy
about “Original Bavarian Schuhplattler” – who will tell me what “Schuhplattler”
is in English? Also alphorn was used and bells, traditional music of course…
the “Wuerstelspezialitaeten” and all the other meal from the Self-Service
Buffet was good, the beer – you know – very well. Some of us went also to the
next door, where the Hard Rock Café Munich is located, to buy some
merchandising-stuff from this company. Back to hotel at about midnight we
entered the bar and joined not Bavarian beer, but some drinks and
Warsteiner-beer. Back in the rooms everyone found a “Lebkuchen-Herz” (again: who
will tell me what is it called in English?). A nice present.
The night
short, the day long… breakfast in the hotel – we didn’t ate so much, because
Brunch in the new opened “Jelly Fish” Swatch Flagship Store was announced and
really cool. I think the Catering was from famous “Feinkost Käfer
Munich”. Not only that we got the new Christmas-special “Snowqueen” with a
special plate saying “Gold and Pioneer Christmas Event 2002 Munich – Germany”
for free, we also had the chance to buy a new… yes – a new tin according to
the opening of the store. Limited to 100, every guest had the right to buy 2 of
them. All were sold out when the shop opened for normal clients. Sorry about.
Meanwhile the members heard about yet another tin from Berlin,
and all the mobiles called the store there. Lucky enough this tin will also be
in my collection. But, now my living room looks a bit like a supermarket… we
all have more than enough tins – our foreign guests joked Swatch Germany will
sell tin-openers next year… I hope not. What will be next opening-specials in
Germany? We count 12 different tins. Is this true?
(An attentive reader told me there were only 10 German
tins released, namely: Augsburg I and II, Berlin, Duesseldorf, Dresden, Goeppingen, Hamburg,
Cologne-Weiden, Leipzig and in alphabetical as in chronological order as last
tin: Munich – we should discuss this!)
Free time till
the evening we had, and with Jürgen as guide we did a sightseeing-tour.
Viktualienmarkt, Frauenkirche, Dallmayr (a
famous coffee-shop in Germany, but not what you mean, guys!) and Moshammer
(you also have to know him… not only that he designed the POP “Feathers”
rumours say, he is also THE German tailor J). There were also some other places and churches I
can’t remember all; In one church we had too much incense *laugh. Luckily there
were a Keith Haring exhibition where we found old Swatch advertisings and other good
looking placards. Followed by a little snack in a palatinate wine tavern the
day turned to another programme-point organised by the Swatch staff. Thank you,
Jürgen, for your guided tour! We all enjoyed it very well.
Met in the
Hotel-Lobby we drove by bus to Garmisch – wondering why so far: 1,5 h to drive.
But I remember it as a short trip, because we saw a video with all Swatch-commercial-spots
from the beginning till now. You remember: “TIME IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT!” or:
“HOW LONG IS A SWATCH-MINUTE?”. A really good idea, and some members asked if
it is possible to get a copy of this video. “Breathe” by Midge Ure, “Snow on
the Sahara” by Anggun are only the most famous songs and more actual. “We come
in peace” to introduce the “.beat” was another very tricky commercial, but also
the very old things are really good and we laughed a lot. We also looked for
the old models – for every watch another story. Where we found the watches, how
much we paid for them (as collector-prices) like: “Do you remember?”… crazy but
true.
Arrived at Berggasthof
Panorama we were again hungry and so we joined pork-medallion
on vegetables and “special”-potatoes… I hear my stomach when I remember this
evening – very tasty… I have to eat now.
After dinner we
did an outside-activity as a surprise: everyone got a black T-shirt and with
the “Swatch-Stars” formerly used as table-decoration we had the best pattern to
spray this with clothes-colour on the T-shirt. On my T-shirt are also
autographs from Alexandra, Susi and Patrick… they did everything that this
Event was a great success. Thank you very much!
Soon it was
time to leave back to Munich, where again the hotel-bar was full. Today the
beer is empty? Can’t be true?! Ok, we had other drinks, but in Munich normally
beer is the only acceptable.
In the morning
after breakfast it was time to say goodbye to wish merry Christmas and a happy
new year… soon we will meet again and we’re looking forward as we also wait for
the Christ-child…
Bye for now and
peace to the world!
Again thanks to
Alexandra, Susi and Patrick and all the others from Swatch – you’re doing a
good job.
P.S.:
Unfortunately my digital-camera broke down… please send me pictures from the
event… and remember: I’m still searching a Duesseldorf-tin and the same from
Dresden. Yes, I don’t have all of the tins…
Thanks to
STROMAR for the pictures “Lebkuchenherz” and “Haring-Poster”. More pictures are
every time welcome.
