Again it was very hard to join this
event. The author of this report has to be anonymous for some reasons, but be
sure it is an first hand report...
Tuesday morning German Reichstag was
the first place to be, but maniacs such as us, soon we looked for Semra in the
hotel to get the latest information about the event.
Thanks to Semra Kalay some Gold- and
Pioneer-Members had the chance to become part of an outstanding Event not only
for the Swatch-World but also for Berlin. A lot of celebrities and prominence
persons, top-retailers of Swatch in Germany and the best hairdresser of Berlin
(!) - Udo Walz - were invited to the Swatch Gala-Evening and the exhibition
Swatch Vendome Collection.
We met Semra and the members at Hotel
Astron were we received our official admission-card and soon we started by bus
to the Martin-Gropius-Bau, a famous building in Berlin where also regular
exhibitions take place. Red carpet on the steps, photographers, flashlights
left and right (of course not while the club-members arrived). Nina Ruge
(German TV-Star), Marie-Luise Marjan (the new "mother of nation" -
Lindenstrasse !), Jasmin "Blümchen" Wagner, Jessica Winter,
Claus-Theo Gärtner ("Matula") and a lot more famous guests were the
argument to shoot a lot of photos. Dr. Thomas Borer-Fielding (former Swiss
ambassador in Berlin) was also there, unfortunately without his wife.
True to style, original Champagne was
served while "meet & greet", interviews, photo shooting and so on
happened. Some "Art-Ladders" from the opening of the Vendome Store
Paris as a bit of frame was a nice idea, but I don't think the people
understood what these ladders should have been. Some were used as a
table-substitute.
On the other hand the people looked
very interesting to the Vendome-Collection and some very hard to find specials
or unique (p-)arts. I'm proud to show you pictures here.
Diner was served for around 220 people,
but maximum 15 Club-members - very exclusive arrangement. What was served?
Please look here for the menu-card. A "Wiener Schnitzel" is
something different :-) ! Well, it tasted good and was - for me - exotic.
Between "hors d'oevre" and
main course some famous peoples related to UNICEF sold coupons, which gave the
right to get a Swatch from the Vendome collection. Udo Walz (see above) bought
together with Burda-Publishing 99 Swatches. So if you're not able to go to
Berlin or Paris next time, watch out for BUNTE or another magazine from Burda
where it should be possible to win some of them very soon. Of course the club
members also bought rare items - we know the value instead of the other guests.
30.000 EURO was the result of the
evening, only by selling the watches, the Swatch director Germany gave another
30.000 EURO so this added 60.000 EURO are for an UNICEF program in Romania.
The end of the evening was very fast,
on the exit everyone got another "Goodie": for Ladies the "GB
159 Aiglette" and for Gentlemen the "GB 158 Aiglon" (both
fall/winter collection 1994!), but... you see: in a nice special packaging. Should be very limited,
because only around 220 people were invited and why should Swatch make more of
these packages as guests invited?
Poor Semra and Susi, and the others
from Swatch: they had to make until 3 o'clock in the morning Vendome-cartons
for Udo Walz' 99 pieces. Do they get a free haircut from him as a reward?
Next day was on private organisation a
sightseeing-tour through Berlin: there are still persons who were never been in
Berlin before ;-) ! Again we met Semra and Susi and in the evening Juwelier
Leicht invited to a vernissage. In his Shop in Hotel Adlon (!) the Vendome
Collection will be buyable until mid July. Here we also had a lot of fun, again
champagne and catering from Adlon - very stylish. Compliment. Some models
presented the Swatch(es), they were in the hair twisted, around the neck
bounded - interesting ideas. Again celebrities were there, again speeches were
done and again it was a nice evening. Juwelier Leicht normally do not have
Swatch, but other watches of the Swatch Group and they're producing very nice
jewellery. The evening ended or the morning started at 4 o'clock in
Berlin-Kreuzberg in a pub.
Next day we had to leave in the evening
but also joined Berlin, which is so big - you can't see all in 3 days.
Now I’m looking for a solution to bring
all or most of the photos online, be patient when it took a while to upload and
to load when they are available.
Again thanks to Semra (now I know a
preference from her *ggg*) and the Swatch-Team.
See you soon and hopefully in London.
