We picked Amy up at the Airport June 25 and she joined the party. Here she is relaxing, clowning behind Emily's and then Bob's glasses, and beneath Camille's old afghan.

DAY TWO IN PARADISE FOR EMILY AND MOLLY
Relaxing after a morning at the beach - June 21
Molly is standing next to an artichoke plant in the garden with the Enchanted Cottage in the background. If you look closely, you can see the little artichokes growing out of the top of the plant. The solar battery charger sits on the table to her left in the sun, diligently charging batteries for flashlights. Emily is reading a book about a girl with Tourette's Syndrome and likes the softness of the "Tiger," a blanket given Camille by Grandmother Dunton many years ago. Their alcove is airy and bright, a bit like a birdcage in the trees.
EMILY AND MOLLY'S FIRST DAY IN THE ENCHANTED COTTAGE
KAHO'OLAWE RESTORATION TRIP JUNE 11 THROUGH JUNE 14
Camille's first trip to the island in which she joined the KIRC restoration crew as a volunteer with Bob and spent three nights on the island pulling weeds. Each day began with breakfast and then an hours ride in the back of this two and a half ton truck to the restoration site. Here we are at the work site. Camille shows off the tool we used to wrench Koa haole roots from the dry, red soil. Some of the roots measured over 8 feet long!
Breaks were a must. The sun was brutal, the wind relentless and yanking those weeks was back-breaking work. We generally ate our lunch in the shade of the truck bed. We each received a packed lunch full of snacks. I counted the calories on the snack packages one day and came up with 1740 calories including the sandwich.
You can see how dry it is on Kaho'olawe from this picture. They use these cute little helicopters to run things around the island, including water for some of the endangered native plant species (Kanaloa kahoolawensis) we are trying to keep alive.
When all was said and done we had this hummock to show for our four days of labor. Completely cleared of Koa haole and topped with a bale of Pili Grass (Heteropogon contortus) to reseed the broken soil. Here we are cleaning our tools at the end of the work day.

Bob surprised Camille with a Chocolate Mousse cake beautifully decorated with fresh strawberries and raspberries, "Happy Birthday, Camille" in marzipan and dark chocolate dribbled over the top and down the sides.
HIKING THE HALEAKALA CRATER
We liked our hike of last weekend so much, we decided to return.
We saw two new birds; the Nene or Native Hawaiian Goose and the small, yellow Common Amakihi.
We brought two mangos, peeled and ate them, sitting on a bluff overlooking the crater.
THE ADVENTURE POD ON HALEAKALA
The Bio-pod seems to enjoy the run up the mountain as much as we do and looks right at home up in the clouds.
