OUR LATEST TRIP INTO THE HALEAKALA BASIN - July 21
We didn't take many photos from the bottom last time, so we made up for it with these. If you look real close at the photo on the right, you will see Amy and Bob hiking across the basin floor. The hill in the background is the one we came down and must hike back up in order to reach the parking lot where our faithful Pod awaits.
The gate from the basin floor and from above on the switchbacks. I was standing on the trail looking down at the gate during our descent and wishing we were there already.
As always, our feet carry us to peace and tranquility when we hike. A few people we know make annual or monthly camping trips to the bottom of this basin to refresh themselves. As one woman tells me "Cell phones don't work down there."
SWEET MAUI ONIONS FROM OUR OWN GARDEN
July 14 - These onions and their cousins were turned into soup, eaten on salads and stewed in the crock pot.
KIRC TRIP TO ULUPALAKUA TO VISIT THE RAIN AHU
July 13 - Amy and Bob joined the KIRC staff to hike up to this sacred spot where the ancients prayed for rain. This cloud bridge forms every day and used to make it all the way to Kaho'olawe (in the distance) with rain. These days, rain on Kaho'olawe is scare due to the lack of vegetation there. But, it doesn't hurt to ask once in awhile.
Any excuse to come to this spot is welcome. Ulupalakua has a magic feeling to it.
THE LAST HURRAH - A TRIP TO HANA WITH EVERYONE
July 9 through 11
Here is where we stayed. Not sure if that's Emily or Amy in front of the car. There were fruit trees all over the grounds. Bob brought avocados, mangoes and papaya and we dined on breadfruit from the tree down the road.
Plenty of swimming and hiking on this trip. We all had a good time. How do you like that black sand? That's Emily on the left and Amy on the right. They learned the Hawaiian name for that impossibly green beach plant at Emily's feet. It is Naupaka.
UP IN THE AIR WITH ARMIN
Armin showed Emily and Camille a good time in his motorized hang glider. He teaches everyone a little about the relationship of wings and wind. If you want to turn right, you bring your right wing down by swinging your weight to the right. Somewhat like stepping into the right stirrup to bend the horse to the right. I could see the connection and it helped me understand.

BEST COMMERCIAL ENTRY - MAUI RECYCLING SERVICE
Bob, Biodiesel Advocate, takes to the streets of Makawao as part of the Maui Recycling Service entry.
MAUI RECYCLING SERVICE TRUCK
Look closely and you can see Molly in the passenger's seat of the Maui Recycling Service Truck. Ruben is the driver of this truck and dressed in his cowboy shirt to support the theme of the parade, which was "Cowboys and Indians"
Everybody posing in front of the newly-decorated pod prior to joining the parade. We're lined up next to a pineapple field. Camille braided her hair like an Indian. We went first, followed by the truck and Shaun brought up the rear.
FUN IN THE GARDEN - July 3
This group of photos was snapped by the kids. Emily, Amy and Molly each made a little home in one corner of the garden. Here is Amy's little home. And all three clowning for the camera.
The neighbor's cat, Sheba came over and spent at least an hour going from girl to girl for petting. Camille came out to see Theresa and came back with flowers in her apron pockets.
