ABOUT THIS SITE
Information and notices concerning our neighborhood are posted here.
This does not replace the monthly meetings. All area neighbors are welcome!

OUR PURPOSE
We set out with two goals in mind:

1. Provide a means of communication amongst the residents
so we can have a community of people who know each
other as neighbors and friends.

2. Establish an awareness of what's going on in our neighborhood so, as citizens,
we can work with each other and our local police to make our neighborhood
a SAFE and RESPECTABLE  place to live.

HISTORY
The Neighborhood Watch group of 16th Place and Scott began with 3-4 households in early 2001. It quickly  grew and was established in August 2001. The first meetings took place on the front lawn of the Monaco's house on Scott Avenue.  GiGi & Clar Monaco became the Block Captains for this group.

As the watch group increased and winter was before us, we moved our meetings into Deek Christian Church on Wilson Avenue, who graciously opened their doors to us and have become another important member of our Neighborhood Watch group.

In 2001, a
Neighborhood Watch Map of our area was developed by Block Captain GiGi Monaco. There is continous updating due to the increase of participating neighbors every year. This map is an aide to neighbors to knowing who their neighbors are, calling the police and identifying an address or location, calling their neighbors to alert them to any suspicious activity in or near their property.  Maps are available to participating neighbors upon request.

Also in 2001, the  voluntary
Neighborhood Litter-Control Program was established by GiGi Monaco. This program involves the children of the neighborhood teaching them Pride & Respect for their  fellow  neighbors, neighborhood and community. Snack rewards are given to participants. Donations by neighbors. This program  ceased in 2003.

Newsletter and Flyers/Notices
The publication and distribution of the Neighborhood Watch newsletter was created by
GiGi Monaco shortly after the inception of the watch group. However, due to out-of-pocket expenses, this newsletter had ceased in early 2002. Flyers & notices are distributed occasionally.

Neighborhood Watch Website
Chicago Height's first Neighborhood Watch Website was launched in April 2002 by Block Captain GiGi Monaco, who developed and designed the site as a means of communication.

PRO-ACTIVE CHICAGO HEIGHTS POLICE DEPARTMENT
The
Chicago Heights Police Department has stood with us from the very beginning and have always had a representative from the police department present at all our meetings. We've established a good working relationship with them.

Chicago Heights Chief-of-Police, Anthony Murphy, his officers and the Community Policing Center continue to work WITH us in helping to resolve neighborhood problems, patrol our area and maintaning peace and order.

Thanks for visiting 'our neighborhood'!
