Monthly Meeting - June 9, 2003
6:30p @ Deer Creek Christian Church-Parking Lot

In attendance: Chicago Heights Police Chief Murphy and Community Police Center Paula Wakefield; Alderman Faso; residents from the neighborhood.

VANDALISM: Resident Rich Hummel & his family received "threats" from a former teenager who used to live next door to them. The young girl and her 2 friends confronted Mr. & Mrs Hummel in front of their house on 16th Place. This young girl, about pre-teen is suspected of damaging the Hummels car - smashed window, scratch markings all around the body of the car.  When discussed at the meeting, another resident from 17th Street become offended because her daughter is friends with the identified young girl.

MOPED RIDERS: Speeding through stop signs. Those riders just happen to be riding by during the meeting. Chief Murphy called for backup.

"AWARENESS EVENT" POTLUCK
: SATURDAY JUNE 21 11A - 3PM KIDS/MINORS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENTS!
There was a big discussion regarding this event. A new attendee to the meeting felt that children should be allowed to come & partake of the food being offered. Regular Neighborhood Watch members stressed that's NOT the reason why we get together....we
get to know who our neighbors are, explain to newcomers the reason for Neighborhood Watch, get more residents involved.  Residents remember last time a woman coming with a bunch of her kids, scooped up plates of food & left, then came back again for more food & left and did not want to talk to anyone. Contact Geoppetto for details of this event.

ALDERMEN MONTHLY MEETING: Alderman Faso invited anyone to attend their monthly meeting too & bring any issues their meeting.

DOGS ON LEASH::
Residents have seen  a 16th Street neighbor walking his little white pup every morning around 7 or 7:30am. He lives on 16th Street & walks his unleashed pup on Scott & 16th Place.

LOUD MUSIC FROM CARS:
continous problem
LITTER-CONTROL: Olivia Carbajal reported on the clean-up. The new attendee asked why the group doesn't clean her street (17th Street). The honest answer given what that she (Olivia) was scared to go on that street. Rather than opening up a discussion on how to improve & help each other, the new attendee took offense again & left the meeting.

ANYONE WANTING TO VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME & EFFORTS TO COVER ANOTHER AREA SHOULD COME OUT TOO & NOT EXPECT, NOR DEMAND THE CURRENT GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS TO DO.

The purpose of Litter-Control is to TEACH THE KIDS & adults PRIDE & RESPECT for our/their neighborhood & community, not to be "used" for punishment or expectations that this group will "clean your yard" for FREE.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH IS ALL ABOUT
COMMUNICATION;
HOW TO HELP EACH OTHER;
HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEMS

Meetings are open to everyone. If there's a problem in your area, present it to the group with the understanding of everyone will try to help with possible solutions, insight, another perspective. Do not come to the meetings to argue and complain. If you do, come with possible solutions as well.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH IS ABOUT
HELPING EACH OTHER.

NEXT MEETING: JULY 8, 2003

REMEMBER, IF YOU SEE ANY DISTURBANCE OR
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD,
CALL THE POLICE AND
GET A DESCRIPTION, AN ADDRESS, AS MUCH INFORMATION POSSIBLE TO AIDE THE OFFICERS.
