Marik Ishtar is probably one of the most seriously demented characters in Yu-Gi-Oh! And that's a
good thing! He's such a cool and freaky character, and he has had alot of crap to put up with his
whole life, which pretty much explains why he is like he is now...
I'll start my story quite a bit before Marik was born...Mr and Mrs Ishtar wanted to have a child, but they
weren't very succesful. This made Mrs Ishtar very upset for she was a little older than Mr Ishtar and would
probably not be able to have any children within a matter of time. But one day, she came across an abandoned
baby and decided to take it in as her own. Mr Ishtar was not very happy with this as this baby was not from
the same bloodline as him. The baby was of course Rishid.
About a year or so later, the Ishtars were successful in a pregnency and Isis was born. As Mr and Mrs Ishtar
were now growing older, they became more and more eager to have a baby boy so that one day he would be able to
carry on the ancient scriptures of the Pharaoh. 4 years after Isis was born, they were successful again, and had
a baby boy, Marik. Unfortunatly, Mrs Ishtar died giving birth to her first baby boy, and thus Marik was left to
be brought up underground with his father, sister and brother in complete confindement of the world above.
Marik was a reasonable young boy though. For the first 10 years of his life, he studied the many secrets of the
Pharaoh along side with Isis, and Rishid was like a body guard. They also had to look after the Tauk and Rod.
As soon as Marik was old enough, Mr Ishtar comes clean to him and says that he has to have the Pharaohs
secrets engraved into his back. Marik becomes very scared, not liking the fact of having anything done to him.
So Rishid offers to have it done instead, like the wonderful friend he is. Mr Ishtar obviously says no and takes
Marik to have the engravings done. This does not, however, stop Rishid from doing anything. He begins to cut the
side of his face with hyrogliphics just to show that he will be in pain, not for him, but with him. This made Marik
extremally angry at his father and the Pharaoh. He should not have to go through with this. Why him? Gradually,
he let it pass...
A year later, Marik began to wonder. About what, exactly? Up there, above the Tomb he had been brought up in,
doing nothing but reading and keeping away from the life outside. What was it like? How different would it be from
where he was now? He begged Rishid even if it were for just a little while to see what life was like above the Tomb,
and reluctantly, Rishid allowed him to go with Isis, but only for half an hour.
Marik loved every bit of it! He grew especially fond of motorbikes. He even pretended to ride one (well, it was a rock,
but it was so damn cute!! ^_^). He ran through the market stools just admiring everything that he could. But when
the time to go back down came, he was in shock as he saw his father whiping Rishid, almost killing him. This is when
Marik starts to show sides of his Yami. Yami Marik picked up the Rod and began to brutally stab his father, killing him,
blood all over him. He was about to kill Rishid, but the other Marik took control and then began to cry wondering why
his father was dead. As he does, Shadi appears and explains that this was the doings of the Pharaoh, and thus making Marik
believe that the killing of his father was the Pharaoh and he has sworn revenge ever since.
5 years later, Marik goes to Japan to try and find the Pharaoh (by now you should know that the Pharaoh is Atemu,
the other soul of Yuugi). He decides to use his Rare Hunters to enter in the Battle City Tournament to see if he can
find the Egyptian God Cards. Unfortunately, one of his Rare Hunters loses the card to Yuugi (Slifer), and so he decides
to enter the tournament himself under the name of "Namu". Rishid claims that he is Marik to protect him.
In the finals, Rishid falls uncontious in battle while trying to use a fake Ra card. Yami Marik takes control of
the battle, banishing the other Marik to a mere outside soul. This is when Marik learns of what really happened to
his father and who the real killer was. He even helped Yami Bakura defeat Yami Marik in their duel, but was unfortunately
captured again.
Yami Marik finally battles Atemu, but as we all know, Atemu wins the duel and Marik is freed from Yami Marik's control,
changing the positioning around so that Yami Marik is now banished. Marik learns alot from what happened and appologises
for all the mistakes he had made, giving Atemu the Winged Dragon of Ra card. Lastly, the three (Marik, Isis and Rishid)
all go back to Egypt to make a new start for their new lives.
