The Perfect Closet Cleanout

Tired of rummaging through your closet?

Cleaning out your closet on a regular basis is an instant energy booster.  Most people only wear a small percentage of clothes in their closets, rotating on average between four to five outfits.  We all have our favorite clothes, but what about the rest of the clothes in our closet?
It is better to have fewer clothes that you feel wonderful in than a bunch of stuff that you feel mediocre in.  Looking good and feeling good are direct feeds to self-confidence levels.  Are you really going to mend the hole in the sweater?  Wear the too tight jeans?  Often times our tastes just change and we feel guilty about throwing away or getting rid of anything due to the might use this someday syndrome.  Chances are if you are looking for something, with an overstuffed closet, you wont be able to find it anyways.

Have that one power suit for work?  The knockem dead date dress that makes the men melt every time?  The outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks?

Pinpoint what it is about these outfits that make you feel so good, so sexy, so powerful.  Take pictures of yourself, or have someone else do it for you.  Then buy a few more outfits like these so that every single thing in your closet wows not only yourself, but everyone else too.  As you go through your clothes keep these questions in mind.  Does this wow me?  Does this make me feel good?  If yes, keep it.  Toss out everything else.

Unsure about this approach?  Think of it this way.  The rest of the clothes in your closet are just taking up space, crowding our your favorites, and cluttering up your view to see what you do actually have.   As you go through your closet, you may be able to salvage some things.  Switch them around, add different accessories and get a whole new look on an outdated or old outfit.

The key here is to be able to see what you have and make use of everything hanging in your closet.  Having a closet full of clothes that you never wear does not make you richer in the wardrobe department.

Cant afford to buy new clothes or throw out old ones?  Take charge of one of these ideas:
        - Have a swap party
        - Check with local thrift stores
        - Put a flyer up at work or at local businesses and sell the whole lot of your
           leftover clothes
        - List them on E-Bay

On a recent move from the city life to the subdued country life I was left with a closet full of corporate clothes and bank teller outfits.  And nothing to get dirty in for my new country life.  I had formal dresses from ten years ago, shoes, and accessories.  I sold my whole wardrobe of bank tellers clothes successfully on  E-Bay.

Recoup what you can and give the rest to goodwill or another organization.

Your closet leftovers could be a prized possession in the hands of another.  My girlfriend recently cleaned out her closet and I proudly came home with nine pairs of brand new stylish shoes.

Having less stuff, makes you appreciate what you do have.  You feel rich in life when you use what you have, give to others what you dont use, and recoup what you can on money already spent.
