It was both mens first forays into the SuperNet main event and they were determined to put on a show. It was also the first-ever battle between the two, so nobody knew what to expect. Linkin Core entered the match as champion with Sean Cena serving as challenger.
This match came about when Cena was able to win the 30-man SurvivorSlam match in January to earn his spot against the champion at SuperNet. That champion happened to be Linkin Core. Core was revered as one of the most dominant champions in NCW history and Cena was looking to test that medal. Core knew of this threat and played emotional games with Cena, going as far as viciously attacking one of his close friends - Bruno Sage.
The stage was set at SuperNet and both men put on a classic. Core not only used his power to his advantage but also implemented his speed to try and take down the challenger. It looked as if both men couldn't deter the other down as the match went on. Eventually, Core called on his D.O.A cohorts Kyle the Style and Cn'N to the ring to help sneak a win. With the referee knocked out, all 4 men administered a beating. Until Santos Guerrero and Thug Livin' arrived to even the odds. With the D.O.A cleared it was back down to Core and Cena. The ref was still down so Core saw the opportunity to use a chair.
He brought the weapon in the ring but before he could use it, Bruno Sage returned and got some rveenge on the man who put him on the shelf by planting a Sage Handle Slam on the chair. Sage left the ring and both competitors including the ref were lying in the ring. Soon eough, all 3 of them found their way to their feet as the match continued. Core was able to land a Spear on Cena much to the crowds dismay. After some showboating, Core was about to finish Cena off with the Jackhammer. As he set him up in the air, Cena mustered enough strength to counter the move and put Core into the Crossface! After a few minutes of struggling, Core finally succumbed to the pain and tapped out.
Cena became the NEW NCW Heavyweight Champion. The crowd was in a frenzy as an emotional Cena held the title to his chest. Sage walked back down to the ring and congratulated his friend whom he had gone through the business with. They hugged and celebrated under the fall of confetti. |
