                                               SECTION REGULATIONS

1. ALL GAMES WILL BE PLAYED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 2001 ASA OFFICIAL RULES, UNLESS MODIFIED BY NYS PUBLIC HS ATHLETIC ASSOC. RULINGS.

2. STARTING TIME:
a. All scheduled games will have a 4:00 P.M. starting time when played on school days.  Games may start earlier or later upon agreement by both schools and availability of officials.  Earlier starts are recommended for early season games.
b. If a school appears on the field 45 minutes after the game was to start it is up the discretion of the home team whether to play the game or reschedule it for a later date.
c. If a team fails to show up for a scheduled game, they will forfeit that contest.
d. The home team will warm up first, and will be off of the field at least 20 minutes before game time, except under extenuating circumstances.  No more than 15 minutes is allowed either team for warm ups.  LATE ARRIVALS MUST BE GIVEN THEIR WARM UP TIME!
3. POSTPONED GAMES:
a. All league games must be played as scheduled.  The only exceptions to this rule are (1) inclement weather* (2) extenuating circumstances.  *Before a games is postponed the home school must contact the visiting school before 12 noon to check on the playing condition of their field.  If the visiting teams field is playable every effort must be made to transfer the game to the field with the original home school batting last.  In the event that a J.V. game was scheduled for the field.  It will be postponed and rescheduled.  The original home school must contact the SECTION 8 OFFICE and the SOFTBALL COORDINATOR.
b. A league contest takes precedence over a non-league contest.
c. A league contest, which was postponed, must be made up on the next available school day within 2 weeks of the postponement.  If this is not possible, a Saturday must be used or the team responsible will forfeit the game.  (This does not apply if the fault lies with BOCES or as a result of an act of God).
d. Any change in the date or site of a league contest must be reported to and approved by the Section Coordinator and the Executive Director for Girls Athletics.


4. LEAGUE GAMES:
All league games MUST be played.  Non compliance will result in a forfeit for teams refusing to do so.

No varsity game can be rescheduled after the last regularly scheduled league game of the season, unless it is because of a rain out during the last week of the season.

All league and cross over games count in the standings.
5. PLAYING REGULATIONS:
a. Schools playing at an unusual site must send that information to schools in their division, the Section Coordinator, and Section VIII.
b. Each team must present a line up card to the plate umpire and the opposing team.  A list of substitute players should be included.
c. Rosters are frozen for the day only.  Team rosters must be sent to the Executive Director's office before the first game.  Failure to do this will result in forfeiture of the first game.
d. All games shall run for the regulation 7 innings unless:
(1) Called by officials for unsafe conditions.
(2) Park permit limitations ( Note: rules established prior to the start of the game cannot be changed once the game has begun).
(3) One Varsity or JV team trails another by 15 runs or more any time after 5 innings of play (41/2 if home team is winning) as long as each team has had an equal opportunity at bat.
e. The score of a regulation tie game shall  be a tie score when the game was terminated.  It will  be continued at a later date (Note: a game that is tied continues to be played until there is a winner, unless the game must be terminated by the officials).
f. League games that are called by the umpire BEFORE they are considered regulation shall resume at the exact point at which they were stopped.
g. If a school finds that they are/will be unavoidably delayed getting to a school notify the host school, Section 8 and the officials.  This includes schools that have a late dismissal time.  If you have a cell phone, give the number out so you can be reached while traveling to a game.
h. The host school will bat last and have choice of bench.
i. When a school forfeits a game, it results in a win for its opponents.
6. FIELD CONDITIONS AND LOCATIONS:
a. If there are any irregularities in the field, home ground rules, or park permits, the home school must notify the visiting school prior to the game date.
b. When playing at a park, it would be wise for the home team's coach to have the park permit on hand (with starting and finishing times).  Rules established prior to the start of the game cannot be changed once the game has begun.
c. SCHOOLS PLAYING ON TOWN OR COUNTY FIELDS WITH AN EARLY CURFEW MUST MAKE AN HONEST ATTEMPT TO USE A DISTRICT FIELD WHEN HOSTING SCHOOLS THAT HAVE A LATE DISMISSAL TIME OR THAT TRAVEL A DISTANCE.
d. ALL FIELDS (school, town, county) MUST HAVE BASES 60 FEET APART AND 40 FEET BETWEEN PITCHER'S PLATE AND HOME PLATE!  Coaches should carry tape measures with them.
e. If a home field is not playable, the game, field permitting, must be played on the opponent's field with the traveling team batting last (A varsity game takes precedence over a J.V. game).  A game must not be postponed for field conditions before the opposing school has been contacted; both teams will be playing in the same cold weather.
