GENERAL GUIDELINES AND INFORNATION FOR
SECTION 8 TOURNANENT PLAY 2009

Play will be under A.S.A. Rules for Fast pitch

CONGRATULATIONS FOR BEING SELECTED!!!
The first rounds will be at the higher seed's site. (the higher seed must bat last and get choice of bench); the semi-finals will be at a neutral site ( the higher seed must be home team and get choice of bench); the finals will be a 2 out of 3 series ( the higher seed will bat last and choose bench in games 1 and 3; the opponent will bat last and choose bench for game 2.

Officials should be in the lot 20 -30 minutes early.  Be by the backsotop no later than 15 minutes prior to game time in order to inspect equipment and check the field.  All officials should dress alike.  We will have three officials on the semis and four          officials on the finals.  Follow suggested Nassau County three and four umpire systems techniques as found on "Bracket Page" of this web site.

Every game is played to a full seven inning
completion, except when 15 run rule is applied after five or more innings.  The tie breaker is used beginning in the top of the tenth inning.  Two Dudley softballs will be used.

For all playoffs, if lightning is seen or thunder heard, seek shelter in a safe place and try, if at all possible, to WAIT OUT THE STORM.  At least a 30 minute wait (or longer) period is used for this type of situation before resuming play.  As much as a total 90 minutes delay is possible if the teams want to stay.  If the game can not be continued on that day, it will be considered a "suspended" game ( no matter what inning you are in) to be resumed from the EXACT point of suspension on a given rain date and then played to its conclusion.  Take note of all pertinent information on the score dheets and lineup cards.  Sign that you have reviewed all documents.  Leave your lineup card with the official scorekeeper.  Officials assigned to a resumed game should read and know all particulars about resumed  game rulings in the rulebook.

Try to settle protests and unusual situations
on site!!! Have a rulebook in your equipment bag or nearby car.  At neutral sites, a Section 8 Protest Committee will be available.

The following procedures should be followed at game sites:
1. At the higher seed's home site, the home team should be off the field and finished with their warm ups at least 20 minutes before game time.  The visitors should be ready to take the field 20 minutes before game time.  Warm ups on the field will be limited to no more than
15 minutes per team.
2.  At a neutral site, the first team to arrive will take the field for warm ups first.

Your officials' availability information tells you the dates of pertinent game play as they have been outlined by BOCES along with possible rain dates.  There will be four championship series of two out of three games each in categories:  AA, A, B, C  (May 24, 25, 26 with the rain date 30).

Regionals are in Nassau County.  Thehost of this Nassau/Suffolk championship will be the HOME team.

States are in Syracuse, selected Nassau Umpires will attend this year.
