13- Mehmood Ali and three others - Layyah

Mehmood Ali and his three accomplices were arrested on the allegation of claiming as false Imam Mehdi at Fathepur Layyah.                                                  Daily Nawa-e-Waqt March 18, 2006

14- Anayat Rasool - Zafarwal

A newly converted Muslim Mr. Anayat Rasool of Chak Mirda, Zafarwal was alleged of throwing the copies of the Holy Quran in a sewerage drain. On June 24, 2006 people alleged that they had seen him throwing the pages of Holy Quran, beads of Tasbeh and some money in the sewerage drain.

Accused was beaten by the people badly then police arrested him. A case was registered against him under section 295-B, PPC because of the pressure of locals. Daily Pakistan June 25, 2006

15- Mohibullah-Peshawar

Mr. Mohibullah, of Akbarpura, Peshawar was alleged by three men for burning the copies of the Holy Quran. At that time the accused managed to escape. The locals went to police station and a case was registered against him under section 295-B, PPC. On August 20, 2006 the accused was arrested from Jabba Dauzai forest.                                           Daily The News August 21, 2006

16- Nadeem Ahmed-Karachi

Shoaib gunned down his friend Nadeem Ahmad, a Muslim religious teacher at Karachi, on the allegation that he had done a wrong translation of the Holy Quran. The assailant offered himself for arrest.                                                                            Daily Nawa-e-Waqt September 2, 2006

17- Imam Hafiz and Master Sadiq - Hasilpur

Imam Hafiz Muhammad of Hasilpur district Bahawalnagar was alleged of burning the old papers of the Holy Quran an angry mob started torturing him. Master Sadiq who was passing by intervened to save the accused. The mob beat him also. Sadiq died as a consequence at the spot. Hafiz was taken to the hospital where he also died few days later. Jamat Aldawa had filed complain against three persons, but no one was arrested.                               Daily Nawa-e-Waqt June 24, 2006

18- Muhammad Amin - Gujranwala

Muhammad Amin of Gujranwala was alleged of burning the leaves of Holy Quran by his neighbour Muhammad Sadiq. An angry mob entered his house and started torturing him. They doused him with petrol and tried to set him on fire. The police arrested the accused but the mob demanded that he should be handed over to them. During investigation the accused stated that the Holy Quran was in his sister’s room having suspicious character. Therefore he thought that was not good. That’s why he set the Holy book on fire. The police stated that accused was mentally insane. Daily Nawa-e-Waqt June 29, 2006

19- Muhammad Sarwar - Lahore

Muhammad Sarwar (40) a drug addict was alleged of burning the leaves of the Holy Quran. Police had registered a case against him and sent him to the jail. Daily Pakistan July 10, 2006

20- Muhammad Azeem and Sheikh Basharat – Islam Garh

Muhammad Azeem and Sheikh Basharat were alleged of saying derogatory remarks against the Companions of the Holy Prophet. An angry mob tortured them, police reached there and arrested Sheikh Basharat Hussain, but Muhammad Azeem was at large. Daily Nawa-e-Waqt September 5, 2006

21- Rasheed - Hawaili Lakha

Rasheed was alleged of burning the pages of the Holy Quran. His neighbors alleged that he had been using the pages of Holy Quran to make fire for cooking food. The witnesses said that, they came to know it when few burnt pages flew out of his home. Police arrested him and registered a case under section 295-B, PPC.                                         Daily Nawa-e-Waqt August 21, 2006

22- Shahzad Samiullah - Karachi

Shahzad Samiullah (36) of Karachi was taken into police custody when a violent mob tried to attack him. His neighbour alleged that he had put a copy of Holy Quran on the ground, stepped on it and tried to set it alight on June 6, 2006. His family went to see him in jail and claimed that he was an insane. Karachi Court had ordered to detain him till this report. Daily The News June 8, 2006

23- Shia Muslim-Islamabad

The police arrested a Shia Muslim of Islamabad on June 7, 2006 on the charge of burning the Holy Quran. Some burnt pages of the Holy Quran were found in his apartment. His relatives reported to the police that they had seen him carrying copies of the holy Quran along with a cameraman into his apartment. The cameraman was also detained. The accused had not been officially charged till this report. The police also suspected that he had done this act to involve some of his Sunni neighbours in a blasphemy case and to use the movie as evidence. Daily Times June 9, 2006

24- Asif-Gujranwala

Asif of Gujranwala was arrested on the allegation of burning the Holy Quran on June 19, 2006. He was sent to jail right after the incident to secure him from the angry mob. DPO assured the mob that the accused would be punished.                                              Daily Khabrein June 20, 2006

25- Abdulsattar - Muzafargarh

Two assailants at Muzafargarh murdered a blasphemy accused Abdul Sattar Gopang while he was coming out of the court after the hearing of his case.                         Daily Pakistan June 7, 2006

26- Muhammad Yousaf - Sialkot

A case was registered against Muhammad Yousaf of village Partanwala, district Sialkot on May 30, 2006 on the complaint of a prayer leader (Imam) under section 295-A, PPC charging him of offering derogatory remarks against the Holy Quran.

A local magistrate rejected the bail of Yousaf who then moved to the Lahore High Court. The court allowed the bail on surety the bond of Rs 50,000 on October 30, 2006. The reason behind the case was a dispute over the property of an Imam Bargah between two parties. Daily Dawn October 31, 2006

27- Abdul Wahid - Peshawar

On January 25, 1999 a complaint was registered against Abdul Wahid Noorani, the owner of a Book Store Peshawar by Mir Hassan Khan. Because a book published by the accused carried various changes in some verses of the holy Quran and he had done it deliberately. A case was registered against him under section 295-B, PPC. In August 2006 the accused was given life imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court.                                                      Daily Dawn August 28, 2006

28 - Mumtaz Hussain-Pindi Bhatian

Mumtaz Hussain Siraj of Pindi Bhatian was booked under 295-C, PPC allegedly for burning the copies of the Holy Quran on February 14, 2006. He was sent to jail. Daily Nawa-e-Waqt February 15, 2006

29- Younis Sheikh - Karachi

Younis Sheikh (41) was arrested in January 2005 on charges of writing a book against Islamic Laws and deviating from the teaching of Quran and Sunnah. The case was registered under 153-A, 295-A and 295-B, PPC and sections 8, 9 of the Anti Terrorism Act. The Anti Terrorism Court at Karachi gave him life imprisonment in 2006.Sindh High Court rejected the appeal and remanded back his case to an Anti Terrorism Court for a re-retrial.                            Daily Times December 16, 2006
