Anne McCaffreys Rules
These rules are set out by Anne McCaffrey for all clubs,
they will be enforced and there are no exceptions.
1. No role-play at Benden Weyr or Ruatha Hold. Ever.
2. No mention of Annes characters in Role-play, nor may a character be connected to them, (no relatives, no playing them or a similar person with an altered name). They belong to Anne.
3. There are only five colors of dragon. Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue and Green. No sports or white dragons.
4. Golds Impress to Women only, Bronzes to Men only.
5. There is no Magic, no Religion, no Aliens, no War, and no contact with Earth. None of Annes other creations will be permitted. While we are a second Pass Weyr, and still know that Pern was originally a colony in surviving record fragments, the Federation isn't showing up, no Brainships or Talents or anything, its not happening.

Player rules
1. We are a PG-16 club! There will be mature themes and issues in role-play from time to time, but fade to black during Mating flights and such. No porn or explicit content.
2. No posing, (using other players characters without permission) or powerplaying. It will not be tolerated. Write your characters only.
3. No flaming or abusive behavior. We love to see drama and interpersonal conflicts in character, but out of character, play nice. This is only a game.
4. We are a Round-Robin style club, and welcome occasional Full Posts as well.
*Round Robin roleplay is simply to start a plot, or thread, and send it to the Yahoogroups list, other players add their own responses as it goes around the clubs players. Full Posts are completed stories sent in by one or more players. If you are unfamiliar with these, contact the BOD and we'll be happy to help explain it further.
5. Full posts will be labled as such, with the words Full Post in the subject line to prevent confusion.
6. All posts should be checked for grammatical errors and spell checked. This makes reading easier for others.
7. Formatting. Please follow these for easier reading when writing dialogue:
div align="left"> Is for Human speech.
  Is for Human thought.
{{ }} Is for Dragon speech, to each other and Humans.
[[ ]] Is for Human to Dragon.
~~ ~~ Is for Fire Lizard speech.
** ** Is for Wher speech.
8. If you have to take a LOA (leave of absence) Please drop a line to the BOD and let us know, real life happens, and we will do our best to accommodate you if you can't post for some reason.
9. The BOD is the final arbiter of all disputes inside the club, all Impressions and club matters such as rules, contest winners and rewards are determined by us.
10. First rule violation, you will be warned, multiple offences and you will be banned from the club, permanently or for a short time depending on the nature of the violation.
11. Major Weyrwide plots, such as death of a high ranking character, plague, massive bad weather, or Threadfalls happen at BOD discretion (see posting requirements) or by request only. If you'd like these things to happen, you must have permission to do them first. Just ask or suggest it! We don't bite and love a good juicy plot idea.
12. Any spamming of the site or list will result in immediate, permanent banning.
div align="left"> Character Rules
While we are a fairly loose cannon club, we do adhere to some IC rules to keep to the spirit of early Pern and some unique requirements.
1.The very first rule with a character is very simple. Have fun!
2.Northern Barrier has no sexual orientation required of riders. The only requirement is that only a woman Impresses Gold, only a man Impresses Bronze. These will tend towards being heterosexual generally, but aside from that guideline, its up to you to decide what you'd like to play. So if you've ever wanted to play a heterosexual male greenrider, or a homosexual or bisexual woman on green or a male on brown or even the occasional bronze, heres your chance!
3.Same sex or opposite sex pairings may occur at Mating flights despite the characters preferences, this happens and is accepted as part of being a rider. However, we don't force a specific sexuality on a character based on dragon color or flight outcome, nor is there any stigma in the Weyrs towards homo- or bisexual riders, they are a part of any Weyr and this is not an issue for the majority of Weyrfolk. Holders may have differing ideas, of course, and bring it with them to the Weyr, or indulge them at home, but its not considered polite to voice them.
4.Green dragonflight winners are determined by the owner of the green. You will have to reserve a date to avoid conflicts with other events, but the winner and timing is determined by the greens owner. Greens do not blood or lay eggs.
5.Gold flight schedules and winners are determined by the BOD, and we must clear all Hatchings and Impressions.
6.Fire Lizards flights and clutches also must be approved by the BOD. If you have a fire lizard you want to have rise or clutch, ask! We'll usually accommodate you.
7.There is no current limit on number of characters you may have, but please do not take on more than you can handle. Rank collection will be discouraged to allow every player possible the opportunities to gain ranking characters of some kind.
8.If you wish any ranking position, you must have a lower ranking character of some sort as well that has to be played to be considered. Weyrs are more than ranking riders or senior craftsmen, and the so called rank and file folks are just as much fun for less work here at NBW.
9.Women on Greens are extremely rare in the beginning of the Second Pass, there are only 11 female greenriders worldwide at the moment, and there is only one female bluerider. All female greenriders are seen as a rare oddity at this time, and until further notice are in Eclipse Wing, the Queens Wing, as the only other women riders currently on Pern.
11.Female brown and blueriders will become available later, but at present we are accepting no riders for the positions. The BOD will announce the open positions, and how to apply for one. They must be Impressed, no transfers! They will be extremely rare, hence the high requirements below for the lucky players who earn them.
12.Minimum posting requirements. Our Ranks are competitive, the BOD may or may not require a contest, writing samples, or other means of determining who gets them. These are intended to reward active players, spread out ranks to as many players as possible, and keep the Weyr running smoothly.
Players who want rank must earn it and maintain it!
All Goldriders, Weyrleader, HAD, Female Brown and Blueriders, Lord or Lady Holders:
15 posts a month.
Wingleaders, Weyrlingmasters, Candidatemasters, Weyr and Hold Steward/Headwoman, Craftmasters of all sorts:
12 posts a month.
Wingseconds, Bronzeriders, Female Greenriders, Journeyman Crafters:
9 posts a month.
Chromatic (brown, blue or green) male Wingriders, Lower Caverns staffers, non ranking Holders:
6 posts a month.
Female candidates desiring to Impress Gold/Brown/Blue:
10 posts a month
Male candidates for bronze/Females for green:
8 posts a month
Male candidates for brown/blue/green:
6 posts a month
Some of these may sound like a lot, but even our largest requirement can be easily covered in round robin posts. 15 spread over a calendar month runs to slightly more than 4 a week. Many characters require far less than that.
13. Follow the posting requirements for the highest ranker you have for the minimum to keep all of your characters considered active. So if you have a male blue wingrider (6 posts per month) and another character thats a Weyrlingmaster (12 each month), you have to post 12 times each month (the Weyrlingmasters requirement) to cover the requirements for both. If you have a chromatic rider in a ranking position, post the requirements for the rank, not the color. This makes it easy to keep track for you and the BOD as well. Generally, you will post more than this anyway, but having a minimummeans that when you need a ranker, theyre active and available to post with!
14.Players who take a rank and do not keep their required posting rate will be warned after the first month that their rankers are becoming inactive. They will have a month to return to their rate of posting, if they fail to do so by the end of this second month, the character will be either demoted from the rank or killed depending on rank held. Golds and female riders in particular will be offed if unplayed. The rank will then become open for another player as announced by the BOD. If you consider rank or a shiny a trophy to gather dust, don't apply.
15.Only one HAD (hears all dragons) will be permitted at any time, and no HAFs or HAWs exist. Players seeking to have the HAD must apply for it, and submit a writing sample of at least two paragraphs as well as have ideas for its use. There will be no HAD goldriders. Having a Queen dragon is special enough.
16. Players seeking the posts of Weyrlingmaster and Candidatemaster may only apply with a male bluerider persona with at least ten years riding experience in his sheet. div Align="left">
17. All new players must include the rules phrase 'Cave Draco' on their first sheets to prove you have read our rules. Any sheet without it will be rejected.
Pet rules
To keep the Weyr from being overwhelmed by animals, pets are limited to the following numbers and types. Please keep these in mind when creating a character. Pets are limited to cats, dogs, and very rare fire lizards. Runners are only at the Hold, and aren't commonly in private hands. No trundle bugs, no tunnelsnakes or wherries. Two are pests and wherries are food. Keep in mind, non played pets may be killed or wander off and there will be chances to acquire pets in game for your characters as well. We are a far northern Weyr and Hold, fire lizards are not common, and will be obtained by in-game Impression almost exclusively. There will be opportunities to earn fire lizards and other goodies in various sorts of contests, held usually bi-monthly, and as rewards. Check regularly for BOD announcements on them!
1. Full Riders, 2 pets, either rare fire lizards, felines or canines, they are discouraged at the Weyr, but do become pets there. No exceptions. Riders simply do not have time for a menagerie.
2. Weyrlings, 1 pet if a fire lizard, no others pets permitted.
3. Candidates may not have pets of any type.
4. Weyr Crafters who aren't riders may have up to three pets. Again, Canines, felines, and rare fire lizards.
5. Holders may also have three pets, same as a Weyr crafter, with the addition of very rare whers and a rare runner on occasion as pet choices to rare fire lizards, and hold-common canines and felines.
6. Whers are working animals. They are Hold only pets, and only three maximum will be permitted at the moment. A Watchwher at Iron Hills Hold, and one or two at the mines. Males only, no breeding whers will be permitted and the reason for ownership must be plausible. These are large, nocturnal and hard to tend animals, please keep that in mind.
