National Black Arts Festival:What We're Doing

:ArtReach

ArtReach is a compilation of programs that are entertaining, educational and make the arts accessible. The ArtReach program is reflective of one of the National Black Arts Festivals' new objectives- bringing the African heritage to the forefront of our communities - be it The City of Atlanta, Fulton County, the State of Georgia or any other community - and celebrating our African heritage through art! ArtReach programs are administered by NBAF Program Coordinator Charmaine Minniefield (404-730-0176) and include:

 * ArtReach Dance Program
Co-sponsored by the Burger King Corporation, making dance classes available to 250 high school students in magnet schools throughout Atlanta. The program culminated in a performance March 14, 1998 at Northside High School.

 * The Atlanta Community Jazz Chorus
An adult jazz chorus from the community presenting choral works of masters like Duke Ellington- new members are welcome!

 * The Journey In Me
BellSouth Mobility co-sponsored this opportunity for elementary school students to create and submit art reflective of the African Diaspora.

 * "Sunday School"
Artists discuss their work and influences once a month Sunday afternoons at locations throughout Atlanta.

 * Earth People
A program teaching our youth to resolve conflict through non-violence and to take major works of art all the way through creation to marketing.

 * Summer Music Camp
The NBAF is pleased to announce the 1998 Summer Music Camp for middle school students, designed for young instrumentalists, including string, wind, keyboard and percussion players.
