The NBAF is pleased to announce the 1998 Summer Music Camp for middle school students. Part of the Festival's ArtReach Education Program, this camp is designed for young instrumentalists, including string, wind, keyboard and percussion players.
The program is directed by Dr. Dwight Andrews, Artistic Director of the NBAF, jazz saxophonist, and Professor of Music Theory at Emory University. The Faculty is comprised of several of Atlanta's finest jazz musicians and educators.
The Music Camp offers basic instrumental instruction, an introduction to music theory and analysis, ear-training and an introduction tot he core jazz repertoire and the principles of improvisation. This is a unique program featuring a holistic approach to aural and written skills. Students will not only learn about jazz, but develop an appreciation for the musical traditions of other cultures as well.
Pre-requisites:
Middle school students with a minimum of 1 year experience in their school music program. (This program is designed for instrumentalists only. A vocal program is being prepared for the future.) Students are expected to bring their own instruments. The camp will provide assistance and information on instrument rental if necessary.
Tuition:
Tuition is $190.00 per two-week session. Students may enroll in one or both sessions. Due to limited space, registration is accepted on a first-come first-served basis. A $25.00 deposit must accompany each registration. If we are unable to enroll your student, the deposit will be promptly returned. The balance of the tuition is due on or before the first day of the session.
Where:
First Congregational Church, 105 Courtland Avenue N.E., corner of John Wesley Dobbs and Courtland Avenue in downtown Atlanta.
When:
Session I- Mondays through Fridays, June 22 through July 3, 1998.
Session II- Mondays through Fridays, July 6 through July 17, 1998.
Program begins daily at 8:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm.
After care is available upon request from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
