Bellydance, or the more correct term "Oriental Dance", has been around for centuries. It is one of the oldest forms of dance and unfortunately, very misunderstood. It is not a dance of seduction but a dance of celebration. It did not originate as a dance done by concubines trying to win the favors of the sultan.The paintings you see of harem girls dancing for the sultan's delite are simple an artist's fantasy and nothing more.
    The role of Oriental Dance in Middle Eastern culture is that of a folk dance. It is performed at festivals, weddings, special occasions, and other such events that bring people together. In certain cultures, it was also used to train women's muscles for childbirth.
    Oriental dance is a low-impact form of exercise that is for all women, young or old, slim or pleasantly plump, short or tall. It will improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and self-esteem. It is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time. It is a dance that offers each individual an opportunity to explore and celebrate their own abilities and unique form.
