The Navy
Memorial in Washington, DC is dedicated to all current and past members
of the "sea services". The museum and Heritage Center offer
historical and current overviews of the sailors' life, the tools of
their trade, and the activities they have been engaged in. Around April
of each year the Navy Memorial Foundation rededicates their site in
a ceremony called the "Blessing of the Fleet" - in which water
from the seven seas is placed in the fountain pool and the fountains
are turned back on.
Members
of the Naval Historical Detachment often provide interpretive displays
of historical uniforms and equipment, as well as taking part in the
ceremony as a representation of uniformed members through the ages.
