The white dove symbolizes survival and resiliency of the human spirit.

My Dad, George Nau, 1959

My father, GEORGE MICHAEL NAU, was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 1, 1923.  He was raised by his father and step-mother in Waukesha, Wisconsin.  My father had one sister (who had passed in the late 1980's), and five brothers.

My father completed the 6th grade and worked along side his father at "Nau's Auto Body & Fender" until he enlisted for 6 years on Active Duty in the U.S. Navy on July 31, 1942.  He advanced to Seaman 2nd Class at Anacostia, D.C. from Great Lakes, Illinois on September 20, 1942.  He transferred for duty in the Radio Test Department and completed Navy course AMM3c at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, Maryland on March 15, 1943; transferred to the National Training Technical Center (NATTS), 87th & Anthony, Chicago, Illinois on January 14, 1944.  He attatined a score of 182 on Pistol Range, which qualified him as a Marksman.  He completed a course in Carburetor Fuel Systems on April 26, 1944 and graduated on May 6, 1944 at NATTS -- his rate changed from AMM3c to AMMc3c.

On May 8, 1944 he was transferred to the Receiving Station in Washington, D.C. by government transportation to Patuxent River, Maryland for duty (I can only imagine that here is where he met my mother).  On January 3, 1945 he had a Night Vision Test with Radium Plaque Adaptometer; attained a score of 161 on the Pistol Range which qualified him as a Sharpshooter.  On July 20, 1945 he completed the Navy training course for AMM2c with a final average mark of 3.22; and had a change of rate from AMMc3c to AMMc2c (+).
