Of the millions of dogs in this country thousands are lost every year, escaped from fenced yards or roaming freely with no collar or identification.  This situation is not reserved only for poor mixed breeds, some purebreds often find themselves in need of help, too.

Often an impulsive buy at a pet store for that cute puppy, turns into a dog that is ignored and not cared for properly.  Many become owner surrenders, either to rescue or to a shelter.  Some are abandoned or put out because of health problems that the owner perceives only as bad behavior.  Changes such as divorce, moving, a new baby in the family or failing health provoke owners to relinquish their pet to others.

Whatever the reason, these displaced dogs deserve a chance to be a loving companion for someone who will be responsible for them.  Not only does the animal benefit but so does our society.
