Chapter 31

The next morning I woke up to the sound of my cell phone ringing. Hey I said, noticing Tylers number on the caller ID. Hey you, how are you feeling? he asked. Much better, ribs are still sore but i'm good I said, nudging Shane. He looked at me and tried to hide his head. I handed him the phone Your brother.

Shane talked to Tyler and decided that we were all going to eat. Shane and I got showered and dressed. You sure you are ok to go out? Shane asked, opening the truck door for me.

Yeah I answered, climbing in besides I want to meet his new girl

Shane and I drove into Charlotte to meet Tyler and Tiff. Shane gave me the background on her. He said that she and Tyler used to date, but they broke up when Tyler started working with Shane. He was gone all the time and it put a hard strain on the relationship.

We pulled up outside the restaurant. Shane opened the door of his truck for me and I hopped out. He grabbed my hand, and led me through the row of parked cars.

Tyler and Tiff were waiting on the rocking chairs out front for us. Tyler stood up and hugged me, Ouch I said, as he squeezed me a little too hard. Sorry Sorry I forgot he said, a little panic in his voice.
Im Shannon I said sticking my hand out to shake Tiffs. After the introductions we all went inside to eat.

All through breakfast Tyler had a tight grip on Tiffs hand. I chuckled at the thought of how much Tyler and Shane were alike. Remembering the night we got back together and how close he held me.

We all sat there and talked while we ate, but it seemed like Tyler was walking on eggshells. I looked at Shane, trying to see if he knew what I was thinking. He just shrugged his shoulders.

After breakfast we all walked out to our cars. Tyler pulled Shane off to the side, leaving me and Tiff to chat. Im glad to see that Tyler is happy I said, smiling sincerely. Me too. I have missed him and everyone so much she said. I gave her my cell phone number so that she could call. The boys returned, Shane wasnt looking very happy.

We got into the truck, and he started it up.  I ran my hand up his arm Baby whats wrong? I asked. Nothing he said, coldly. He pulled out of the parking lot and instead of taking the interstate home, he went a different way.

He drove past a house, making sure he slowed down. Shane studied the cars in the driveway. His face seemed to get red, and he parked the truck. Ill be right back he said, hopping out.

He ran to the front door and knocked. I was shocked when I saw who had opened the door. Beth.

I could see Shane yelling and pointing at the car. Oh My God I said, realizing what this was all about.

I quickly got out of the truck and ran around to the front of the car. I saw the damage, the front end was smashed. I had been working on cars long enough to know that the dent wasnt from another car. You Bitch! How the hell could you hit me? Are freaking psycho? I asked, pulling Shanes cell phone out of his pocket.

I quickly dialed 911 and explained to the operator what was going on. Whitin 10 minutes the police had arrived, including the detective that had been working on my case.

The rest of the day was a blur; I spent a lot of the time answering questions. Shane and I stood off to the side when they handcuffed Beth and put her into the squad car. We watched them hook up the car and tow it off.

God I cant believe her! She could have killed me I said, burying my face into Shanes shoulder. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead I know baby he said quietly.

The police asked Shane and I to meet them at the station the next day.
