Chapter 29

I ran out into the parking lot, searching for Beth. I didnt see her; I knew that she couldnt have pulled off already. I scanned the cars, listening intently for the sound of an engine starting up. I heard a car behind me, I turned..

Baby I heard Shanes voice, I couldnt see him. It was black, everything was black. I heard footsteps coming closer, Oh my god Shan wake up Dees voice said, trembling. I tried to talk, I couldnt.

I need an ambulance I heard Jrs voice say. An ambulance, why? Who got hurt? I said to myself. Everything went silent, no more noise.

****Shanes POV****

I walk out of the restaurant in search of Shannon, I need to make sure her and Beth werent playing WWF in the parking lot. I walk out the door, I dont see them. I hear a moan as I walk closer to the parking lot. I look down and see Shannon sprawled across the pavement, bleeding.

Oh god, not now I said, as I knelt down beside her. I called her name trying to wake her up. I heard a few moans, she wouldnt open her eyes.

Dee came out behind me, calling the rest outside when she saw the scene. She was on the other side of Shannon, holding her other hand, trying to coax her awake.  Jr was on the phone, trying to get the Ambulance. Everyone else just stood there in shock.

Finally, the ambulance pulled up and we all stood back and watched as they loaded her up. Can I go? I asked one of the paramedics. He agreed and I climbed inside. I told everyone I would call them and let them know how she was.

Bull Crap! Dee said her voice still shaky I will meet you at the hospital. Kevin protectively wrapped his arm around Dee as she turned and sobbed into his shirt.
***Shannons POV***

Where the hell am I? And why does my stupid head hurt so much? I asked myself. My eyes scanned the room, I noticed Shane asleep on a chair in the corner. I tried to open my mouth to talk but noticed I had a breathing tube in my throat.

I saw a glass of ice water sitting beside the bed. I dug my hand in and picked up a piece of ice, chucking it at Shane. It nailed him on the shoulder; his head shot up and looked at me.

He quickly made his way over to the bedside, picking up the call button for the nurse. God baby was all he could say, tears falling down his cheeks. He kissed me quickly on the forehead and ran his hand across my cheek. The nurse will be in soon and then they will take that thing out he said, pointing to the tube.

Shane stepped off to the side as the nurses and doctor came in. He watched, biting his nails as they checked every inch they could possibly check. Finally, they took that damn tube out of my throat. You might not be able to talk for awhile, dont strain the doctor said, writing on my chart.

Everyone left and Shane returned to my bedside. I tried to speak, but I was too hoarse to be understood. Shane went to the nurses desk and got me a pen and paper. I started writing, What happened? I penned.

Shane looked at me and shrugged, I was hoping you could tell me. We know you got hit by a car, but we dont know anything else. The person that hit you fled. I went outside and found you lying on the ground. He smiled, obviously enjoying the fact that I was awake.

I thought hard to myself, trying to remember anything about that day. All a blank. Can I go home? I jotted down, Shane chuckled slightly. I think they might want to keep you a little while longer. I mean crap baby you were out almost 4 days! he said. My eyes bulged, 4 days! I thought myself.

Over the next couple of hours almost everyone had stopped by, including my little sister, whom Shane had flown out. Dee pretty much told Shane that he HAD to go back home so he could race, that Pam and herself were perfectly capable of watching me. I feel like a 3 year old, with some mean ole babysitters I said sticking my tongue out at Dee, who only minutes before took away a soda that the doctors had forbidden me to have. Shane chuckled and looked at Dee and Pam Can yall excuse us for a minute? he asked. They left the room and Shane knelt down beside me, I will see you as SOON as I come home. The doctors said you can go home tomorrow and I have already booked you a flight he said, keeping a firm grip on my hand.

I smiled sweetly, Be safe I said, kissing his hand. He leaned down and kissed me on the lips. Love you baby he said before walking out the door.
