Below is a list of beers I have tasted (and remembered) during our time in London. Each has a description explaining where I encountered them and what my thoughts were. Don't expect to much of an explanation.

Asahi   Asahi

Although this beer is available in many places I have only had it at Woggamamas (a japanese resturant with big bowls of noodle soup). It comes as part of a meal deal. As it says on the label, Asahi is a dry beer and tastes a lot like Tooheys Extra Dry. I like it alot and it goes well with a meal.

  Becks

Wendy and I decided to have a large bottle of Becks each one night. Here is a picture of the bottle and Wendy. Nice face! Becks is a German beer, it tastes like a German beer. I enjoyed it more than the Millers that we also had that night. Its bitter and flavoursome.

  Bud Ice

I think this beer is more like water than beer. Its has no flavour. Easy to drink. It has a slightly bitter after taste.

  Bud Var

A Czech beer that looks a lot like a Budweiser. The bottle is a similar, the colours are similar, the taste is different. It tastes better I think. All the writing on the bottle is in Czech. I could probably get the fish to translate it but I don't have one when on the net. 03/02/03

  Budweiser

The king of beers, so the label says. Bottles of Budweiser are available at pubs, super markets, all over the place. Its a very, very easy beer to drink, almost soft drink like I think. You wouldn't pick that its 5%. I like that fact that they come in a 500ml bottle and have a large mouth piece, about the size of a twenty cent piece. I bottle like this costs just over a pound. We use one of the empty bottles to collect our spare change for future use in the washing machine. 03/01/03

Caffery's   Caffery's

Daniel Armstrong (my brother) got me to taste this beer at O'donahues in Emu Heights and he told me how he drank quite a lot of it while he was over here. I have encountered this beer a couple of times but it doesn't appear to be available at all pubs. I had a pint of Caffery's at a pub called "Lakeside" in Ruislip. Its a nice place and we stopped in there for lunch with my cousin Natalie one day. I saw Caffery's on tap and decided to knock one back. I have since drunk several more pints at "all-bar-one" in London. Caffery's has a texture similar to milk and it is quite easy to drink. Its a darkish beer with a creamy head similar to kilkenny or Guiness however its flavor is quite mild. I don't mind Caffery's and I'll drink it when I don't plan on having to many. 19/12/2002

  Carling

While Wendy, Donna and I had dinner at the Red Lion and Pineapple I got us a round of beers. 3 pints of carling cost me 4.90. Carling is another easy drinking beer that's available at most pubs. Its has a light flavour that the 3 of us could all enjoy. 03/01/03

  Carlsberg

Its the kind of beer I could drink all day. It has a nice crisp, light flavour and leaves a clean after taste in your mouth. I'm not sure where I first had this beer. Someone else was shouting and I said "I'll have what your having" (its a good way to try new beer). I've since ordered this beer while I was at "The Reindeer"  and I think this could become a regular beer. Time will tell. 19/12/2002

Fosters   Fosters

Most people seem to be aware that fosters sells well in England. The locals don't seem to realise that we don't drink so much of it back home. My first night on the town was with Donna's cousin Neil and his friends. They were all drinking fosters. They also seem to like Fosters tops which involves putting a little bit of lemonade in the top of the pint. If I could compare to anything it would be Toohey's new. It doesn't taste the same but its a similar colour and texture and has a light crisp taste about it. I will probably drink more of this beer as I am happy to go with whatever the crowd is drinking but I wouldn't buy one if I was by myself. 19/12/2002

Grolsch   Grolsch

This beer comes in a nice green bottle with a re-sealable lid. They make good water bottles for the fridge. Apart from that, they also taste ok. Grolsch is one of the many beers available at the local supermarket so it makes its way to our flat fairly often. I think it tastes it bit like a VB but its hard to remember. 03/02/03

  Hoegaarden

The white beer. Myself, Donna and my sister Wendy encountered this beer at "the green" in Willesden Green. I had 2 pints, the first because Wendy told me its a very good beer and people come to the pub especially to get it, and the second because it was on the house. At 4 a pint its not a beer I will drink to often. At first I didn't like the taste of Hoegaarden as it was quite different to what I expected, it soon grew on me and I would happily drink this beer again. Its a white creamy colour and its quite opaque. The taste is similar to many other German beers I tasted but I don't really know how to describe the flavour. 19/12/2002

  Heineken

These are readily available at home as well but seeing I bought a couple of cans from the supermarket tonight I have to add it. Heineken is a nice mild beer. At only 3.4% I assume you class this as a mid strength beer. I'm having one as I write this out of a pint glass the pog stole from her work. The colour is light and it has the crisp easy drinking flavour that you get from a cold filtered brew. I looked over the can for something extra to write but couldn't find anything. 03/01/03

King Fisher   King Fisher

Not bad. There seem to be a lot of easy drinking beers over here and this beer is no exception. I bought one for wendy as a surprise (she likes me to buy beer) and she returned the favour one night. 03/02/03

  Leffe

This is a strange one. I found it at a restaurant called Shish (because you buy gourmet shish kebabs). Leffe is 6.7% (from memory) and is made by monks. The lable says "Blonde Blond". I'm not sure what colour it is but the taste reminds me of vanilla. It wasn't an easy beer to drink, I doubt I'll have another one. 03/02/03

  Millers

Millers Genuine Draft. Another American beer. This was another easy drinking beer with a little bit of flavour. I'm beginning to think that all American beer is weak. Hopefully I will find something with more punch soon. I think I prefer Millers to bud though. In the last few weeks I have downed a few of these and I quite like it now. 03/02/03

  San Miguel

Where did I have this beer? I made a note of it in my phone but I'm not sure where I had it or what it tasted like. This means I have to have another. 03/02/03

Snake Bite   Snake Bite

Although its not a beer I think it belongs on this page. I first had snake bit at the Forster RSL when I was playing in a volley tournament. Kimmy (a girl that some of you know quite well :) ) showed us this drink. She made it with VB, Strong bow white and Grenadine. I had not had snake bite again until recently at the "Manor House" where I consumed about 5. This version was made with some kind of cider that was on tap, Stella and some red stuff. I'm not sure of the ingredients because the barman made it himself. Its a weird taste and I think it gets you very drunk. The red stuff and cider make it quite sweet but it still has a beer taste to it. I had a big night and I'm sure the snake bite had a bit to do with it. I've since been told its Looney juice and makes you stupid. My behaviour afterwards may prove this theory. Save this one for the big nights. 19/12/2002

Super Bock   Super Bock

We had Super bock while eating at Nando's. Its hard to say how it tasted because we had some seriously hot chicken with it. I didn't mind the Super bock. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet. 03/02/03

  Staropramen

This was the other beer that I drank at "the green". I liked this beer and I have since had more while at "all-bar-one". Although its a German beer it tastes nothing like Hoegaarden. Its slightly dark in colour and has a nice strong flavour. Its on my  thumbs up list. 19/12/2002

Stella Artois (check spelling)   Stella Artois

I first drank this beer the day after we arrived. Donna, Neil Taylor and I were in Windsor visiting the castle and we met up with Neil's step brother John for lunch. He went to the bar to buy drinks and asked me what I would like. When I explained that I didn't know what beer they had he decided to buy me a Stella and therefore it became the first beer I had in London.  Its quite a strong beer and the locals refer to it as "Wife beater" because it makes you angry. I have since drunk Stella on many occasions and it would seem that it is capable of making me quite drunk. I haven't had any aggressive tendencies though, nothing like op rum.

Tetleys   Tetleys

I really didn't like tetleys. I bought it because they didn't have the beer I ordered so the waitress suggested it. This was over dinner at "The Reindeer". It was a darkish beer and it had a dull flavour and no after taste at all. I thought it was ok after the first few sips but by the end of the pint I had decided it was no good. This is the opposite reaction I have to most beers. I'll drink it if someone buys it for me because I don't like to waste beer but that's about it. 19/12/2002
