Reviews

Neil Allen's book, A Symphony to Finish, was extremely enjoyable to read. Because of his conversational style, I read this book straight through on a Sunday afternoon. It kind of felt like I was watching a romantic comedy and I even dashed to my kitchen to make some popcorn during my own intermission. I liked the witty repartee between the characters and the way he managed to convey humorous relationships that spun off one another. He particularly impressed me by the way he changed his writing style to match the different personalities. When the conversations turned to just Lori and her friend, the sarcasm he displays throughout his writing was much more muted. As a writer I know that being able to step back to understand different personalities, moreover writing in their perspective, can be difficult. It was interesting to read about Nick's internal dialogue and the relationship dilemmas that we all go through. The book also raises some provoking philosophical questions. No matter how happy he was in his present state, he continued to be consumed by the lost possibilities of the past. All of us can relate on some level and Neil's ability to connect with his reader compels me to strongly recommend this book to anyone. Now there are two things I am counting down to - my milks' expiration date and, of course, his sequel. :) Great book Neil! Lisa Vohra

I finished reading "A Symphony to Finish" and I really enjoyed it! Good story, well drawn-out characters and interesting plot turns. Of course, the ending (?) left me with lots of questions, so I hope you are working on the next book! Well done! Michele G.

It's Wonderful!! I liked how you incorporated all the Cincinnati places. Let's see,our days at Woodward, Skyline, Winton Woods and Izzy's, even if you moved it to New York. The description was perfect and it made my mouth water for a good corned beef sandwich and potato pancake. I enjoyed the description of the train ride to New York and the city. Even the description of the control room and everything that is done was interesting. I trully believe you have a Best Seller !!! Nancy K.

I enjoyed reading your novel "A Symphony to Finish". The interest was throughout maintained to finish it and find out how it would end. You have very well described human emotions and human temptations that everyone comes across in life whether one accepts it or remains in denial. You rendered harsh realities in a very caring and sympathetic way, too. The end was most appropriate and I liked it. Also, the language is very simple and the narration of work-atmosphere of a TV job was very good. In all, the book should interest readers of all ages. Subhash V.

A Symphony to Finish by Author, Neil Allen, is a wonderfully written, down to earth, novel which takes us into the professional lives of television personnel and how their professional life and commrode impacts their personal life for good or bad. His true to life characters reveals the sexuality and every day side of human nature. One is so caught up with the characters that it is easy to take sides or find excuses for our favorite one. Nick's wife, Susan, of four years, who is left with too many lonely nights, turns to another for social comfort, but Nick is not without some blame as he already has eyes and thoughts for a co-worker named Laurie, who temptingly wets his sexual appetite, but at the last minute declines and leaves forever in Nick's mind a symphony unfullfilled. Unable to face the situation at home, Nick leaves his wife and small son and moves away to a better job. Divorce and visits with his son are Nick's life until he meets and marries a wonderful woman, named Meg. The lustful Lori, married her old flame, John, and moved to Flordia. Things are going well, until John begins cheating on his wife, Lori, who suddenly remembers Nick. She tracks him down and again they meet. The unfullfilled Symphony plays again. What will Nick do? What about his lovely wife, Meg? That's a secret that I leave for the readers of this book. Neil Allen has done a great job in giving to us this adult novel written with taste and sensitivity. I look forward to reading more of this author's work. I give a Symphony To Finish, the highest rating of five stars. Kathy Bunn-Schultz The Convent and the Rose
