Our Storyteller Logo

Storytellers are caretakers of the accumulated spirituality, wisdom, and humor that has been relayed through the centuries by a people adept at interpretation. For many indigenous peoples, the sharing of oral tradition was the principle method of education and entertainment.

From stories told, young people learned of their origins and history. Their language became beautiful and intimate.  Through story they mapped their homeland, its trails, shrines, and places of great happening. The stories became a cohesive part of their culture.

A storyteller doll, created by
Mary Trujillo of Cochiti Pueblo, has been acquired as the symbol of the organization and its aspirations.
