CILH Section Meeting

Chair John Luzader opened the meeting of the CILH section of NAI. Since no minutes from the last meeting were available, Jerri Spellman read an account of the meeting from her notes. There was a motion to accept the minutes as read, with second. Motion carried.

John Luzader read the treasurer's report. A final balance of $7583.00 was reported. A motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer's report. Motion carried.

John Luzader gave a brief notice and announced the call for papers and showcases for the Washington D.C. joint conference, to be held 11-13 March 2004 at the Holiday Inn on the Mall. Bill Weldon and Janice Elvidge elaborated on the call for papers and initial plans. This joint effort is between the CINP, AAE and CILH sections. Each section will have a track and a keynote during the conference. There is a possibility that the new Native American Museum may be open in time for the conference.

Old Business

The need for a new web page and editor was discussed. A motion was made and seconded to use a professional web designer for this purpose. Second was followed by discussion. An amendment was made to the original motion to explore various cost possibilities.. the amended motion was seconded. Motion carried. A request for a volunteer to look into possibilities for the new web page was made. Stephanie Acheson, Nikki Combs, Kay Cynova, Anton Heinlein and Loni Manning volunteered to be the Web Team. A request was made that the team report on their progress in 60 days, and a suggestion was made that they talk to the NAI national office.

A strong request for articles for the newsletter was made.

The call for regional representation within CILH was discussed. It was reported that as of this date, only 2 people had stepped forward to be regional reps in Region 1 & 5. Several more volunteers answered the call. They are:

Region 6 is hosting a conference in Early March and would like some help to promote this.

Awards & Scholarships
Only 1 scholarship has been awarded. The need to establish Section awards was outlined as well. Future awards will be presented at national conferences. Terry Del Bene and David Jamiel volunteered to work on the awards and scholarships program.

Report from the Election Chair
Jerri Spellman reported that 39 ballots were received from the CILH membership. Fran Blanchard assisted Ms. Spellman in counting the ballots. The new officers for 2004 - 2005 were introduced. Janice Elvidge as Chair, John Luzader as Vice-Chair, Terry Del Bane as Treasurer, and Kay Cynova as Secretary. Mr. Luzader elaborated on the election and encouraged the membership to participate in their organization.

A call for help for next years NIW was made.

New Business
Leadership make-up of NAI is shifting. The membership is encouraged to contact their Section and Regional Board Members and ask questions about what is happening. The membership is encouraged to be aware of what is happening in their organization. The present structure of the NAI board was discussed. The format of the NAI Board structure is on the NAI web site.

There was a decline in membership of the CILH Section due to agency budget cuts and transitions to other Sections.

Bill Weldon spoke to encourage presentations at the Washington D.C. Workshop in March.

John Luzader spoke about the pre-conference workshop.

Terry Del Bene presented John Luzader with an inscribed and autographed copy of his book, The Donner Party Cook Book, in honor of John's service to the Section.

Region 9 encouraged members to buy T-Shirts to help fund the workshop in March.

John Luzader mentioned that this was his last meeting as Section Chair.

A motion was made and seconded to end the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
