| January 28, 2005 The Chapter has formed the music group, "Trimph & Praise Ensemble." This group is to perform at the 3rd Annual Gospel Classic. All interested is asked to come to the February 10th meeting and to contact Tiffany Benton at [email protected]. December 2004 The Birmingham Branch of the NAACP will be having its elections in January of 2005. That date is to be set by Rev. Charles White, Region Five Director. Running for the President's position is Nathan Reed and the incumbent Hezekiah Jackson IV. For more information you can contact Rev. White at [email protected]. October 17, 2004 The UAB Chapter of the NAACP will be having its 1st Annual Image Awards and Fashion Show on November 4th 7:30 PM at the UAB Great Hall. The emcee for this event will be Ebony Arrington from 95.7 JAMZ'a Number one "Buckwilde Morning Show" This graduate of Tuskeegee University owns her own dance studio with an enrollment reaching 250 in the city of Birmingham. February 1, 2004 The UAB Chapter of the NAACP plans to have its first ever Image Awards. This awards ceremony will reward students and faculty that deserves recognition for the work that they do but hardly ever gets acknowleged by UAB. The catergories will include: Most Outstanding Greek Organization, Most Outstanding Scholar, and someone will receive the Camille Armstrong Award of Humility. This ceremony is scheduled for March 1, 2004 at the UAB Great Hall and will start at 7:00 P.M. The ceremony will also include a fashion show and entertainment. January 5, 2004 We received our official letter of reactivation from the national office. This letter has now given the UAB NAACP an official presence at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The reactivation of the UAB NAACP's chapter was applied for in October of 2003. This organization is now ready to fully take on the charge of ridding discimination from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. December 2003 Brian McCoy, the UAB NAACP President, and Tamera Smith, the UAB NAACP treasurer, were both appointed to the USGA Election Commission at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on December 5th 2003. These positions gives an African American presence with an aware mind on the election commission. We are also currently working on minority retention at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and also securing the NAACP a permanent residence at UAB. |
