What's Changed?

12/18/01- Added download info for HeadAC3he and BeSweet. Recompiled all my programs with a new version of the compiler, supposed to be optimized for XP.

12/17/01- Updated the audio guide to coincide with releases of BeSweet and HeadAC3he.

11/27/01- Some syntax fixes on the main page.  Complete revamp of the audio guide is in the works, I will also have the latest lame alpha by the end of the day and some new audio programs to make life better.  Also removed some stuff that didn't really need to be here, like the old files links.  I changed a bunch of links so if anyone has found a missing link, let me know.

10/12/01- Added a link to FUBatch to batch encode multiple FairUse Projects. I'm using it to backup my simpsons season 1 DVD right now and it works great, just set up everything and come back a couple days later and you'll have your multiple encodings done. I've also updated the latest lame version(3.90 alpha8).

9/28/01- Updated everything to match the Audio Installer and new batch file. Now using SSRC for sample rate conversion instead of lame.

9/26/01- The Audio Installer now works under Win98 and Win2k (and probably all other Windows versions except NT 3.5). It contains the updated version of Lame that I have also posted separately. Expect an audio guide modification by the end of the week.

9/21/01- I'm working on an installer for the entire audio conversion, and in doing so I found out that my batch file method doesn't work with Win98 and probably not with Win95. I hope this means that everyone who uses my guide has Win2k or WinXP. Anyways, here's the installer so far: ac3_to_mp3.zip. It includes azid, lame, normalize, and ssrc, so if you're looking to convert your audio, this is all you need to download. Try it out and let me know if you have any idea how to make it work under Win9x.

9/7/01- The main geocities site was taking up so much bandwidth that I had to create another mirror.

8/27/01- UnUPXed lame.exe so hopefully it will be even faster now.  I updated the audio page with some new settings and a new bat file.

8/24/01- I added Lame3.90 alpha 7 and I'm currently testing some new settings for that. Hopefully we'll have a lower bitrate/equal quality setting within a couple weeks. Your test results are very welcome. I'll post some of the settings that I'm using soon and perhaps a bat file that will go through all of the settings.

8/15/01- Ditched most of the audio section and just left the bat file.  Moved the detailed info to another page to keep the main guide as simple as possible.  Somewhere along the line, I added LAME3.90 alpha 6, so I thought I'd mention it today.

8/14/01- Significant update to the audio conversion method to reflect some changes I've made through extensive testing.  I've also been working on an installer for Ddogg that you can find on my calculator page.

8/9/01- Not much news regarding FairUse, as you know if you've been following the forum.  I've created a calculator page with all the programs I've made, including a new one I made while testing the DivX4 codec.

7/30/01- Final touches on the Diff Calculator.  Also working on the guide for it.  Hopefully done by the end of the day.

7/27/01- Finished the diff calculator and uploaded it.

7/24/01- Fixed some pictures (still one more to fix), added a picture to the Diff Tracking guide.  Reworded some stuff on the Main Guide.

7/19/01- Reorganized the main Fair Use Guide to reflect the new version.  Almost done adding new pictures....think I have 4 more screenshots to add, for now, there are 4 old ones in their place, so things might seem a little out of place.  Should be fixed by tomorrow.

7/18/01- Rewrote the LAME guide to reflect the way I now encode mp3's.  Started adding new pictures that will load faster (and look crappier, but who cares?).  Updated the ABR Calculator to always round down the target bitrate so you don't go over your filesize.  When working with such long audio files, bitrates that are even slightly high (127.7 --> 128) can easily result in overshooting your desired filesize.  Also added contact info to the main page, feel free to email me about any problems with FairUse or my guides, I'll be happy to answer the best that I can.  Also started updating the pictures to new b0.30 screenshots.

7/17/01- Updated the Main Guide slightly, taking out obsolete programs.  As soon as I finish my first FUb0.30 rip, I will have pictures and the new procedure outlined.  I have also added a guide to the new experimental Fair Use method:  "Diff Tracking".  Finished the Diff Tracking guide and wrote a program that can be used to calculate the target ABR bitrate.

7/16/01- Added newest version of Fair Use! I will be testing it out and of course updating the guide like crazy to match up with the new version. It will make things a lot easier...making my program(and the whole audio syncing) obsolete. The old version is in here as will be my program and smartripper it seems. As sad as I am to see my program die, I'm just as happy about the new features and fixes in Fair Use.

7/13/01- A couple grammar fixes on the updates page (news.html). The file listing is now changed, affecting both the index page and the guide.

7/12/01- The small updates are finally cooling down and so I think I'll add this page. Also major news today was the addition of my program, FUaudiodelay.zip. I got tired of getting out the calculator each time, so I wrote this little program to take care of it all for me, hope it helps you too. Guide updated accordingly. I also changed a few minor things here and there in the main page and the guide to reflect the use of Winamp instead of Sonique (yay!). Added links to the FAQ's for easy browsing. Hope you appreciate that one, it was quite tedious. Updated FUaudiodelay to what I hope is it's final state, link is still the same as above. I just tested lame3.89 and it works, so I've removed 3.88.

7/11/01- Added the newest version of nandub to the process. A bunch of minor updates, fixes to the guide and such. Paid close attention to the forum today and made the changes that were suggested there.
