Week 2 brought us some late winter weather.  The forecast was low 60's and partly sunny, but we arrived to find temperatures in the mid-50's with a wind chill factor in the 40's.  Layers were the dress code of the evening, and Scott was spotted with a winter hat on.  Despite all this the league showed up, determined to improve upon our scores of Week 1.  But Mother Nature won out!   The average net went from 4.4 over par last week to 5.3 over par this week.  We had one par on #4 (Scott) and one par on #9 (sub Nick Razzi).  Our first birdie of the year was carded by James Jung on #6!

There were no runaway matches and only one match was determined before the final hole.

In Match 1 Dan & Bob and Adrian & Nick were tied after three holes.  Nick & Adrian won the next three holes, and #7-8 were taken by Bob & Dan.  On #9 the handicap was the difference and Adrian & Nick pulled out the victory.  This places them in first place after two weeks.  Congratulations!  As a reward (?) they get to play the 2nd place team next week for first place.

Match 2 was also tied after 3 holes, but Colm & Chris took 3.5 of the next 4 holes to pull out the win vs. Wendy & John.  Colm must have been wearing extra warm clothes because he was the only one in this group unaffected by the weather.  He scored the night's low net with a 34.

Craig must have had an inside look at the long term forecast because he was in California this week.  With Lynne still out, subs Kyle Pero and John Vergo played vs. Bob & Mike.  This match was tied after 6. 7 and 8 holes.  Finally on Hole #9 Bob Byrne's bogey was the difference and he and Mike pulled out the victory.  Bob still hasn't made it to the bar.. the early-season Mets results should drive him to drink by next week!

In match #4 James came up big when it was needed.  His birdie on #6 put him and Cal in the lead, but Ed & Bernard made a late run to tie the match after 8 holes.  On #9 James hit a bogey-6 which led to a one hole victory.

Match 5 featured the always tough matchup of Skip & George vs. Scott & Ted.  Skip & George got off to a fast start and won 2.5 of the first 3 holes.  After 5 holes they maintained their 2 hole lead.  Then Scott & Ted made a comeback, winning the next two holes to even the match.  Holes 8 & 9 were both drawn and the match ended in a tie.  Scott had the nights low score and hit a par on #4.  Sub Nick Razzi had a par on #9.

Match 6 was a back-and-forth affair through 7 holes.  Nicky and sub Larry Rowland started off well, but Mark & Tony came back to take a 1 hole lead after 6.  The match was tied after 7, but Mark & Tony won the final two holes for the victory.  Hole 9 was played in darkness, but somehow all 4 players kept their shots reasonably straight and finished without losing a ball!

See you next week.  Play was slow again this week.  Please try to keep things moving next week.  After Week 3 all handicaps will be adjusted, and they'll be adjusted weekly after that using only 2009 league results.

Low Actual:  Scott Stetler with a 43

Low Net:  Colm Malone with 34

Hardest Hole:  #3, #4 & #9 at 2.5 over par.

Easiest Hole:   #5 at 1.2 over par.
