Welcome Back!  We caught some very nice weather for Week 1.  The course was in good condition considering the weather we've had so far this spring.  All but one match was able to get in all 9 holes.

The rust showed in our scores as we finished with an average net of 4.4 over par.  There were no birdies, no pars on #4, and only one par (Scott) on #9.  Next week will be better!

In Match 1, Wendy and John came out hot and took 3 of the first 4 holes.  However Nicky and Lorraine made a comeback, winning 2.5 of the next three holes.  It came down to #9 where John's bogey won the match.

When Scott & Ted saw the Week 1 schedule they started going out and playing early in the spring.  This practice made all the difference against Ed & Bernard, who like most of the rest of us had played no rounds since the fall.  In a shocker... Scott had the low round of the evening!

Match 3 involved a reunion as Kyle Pero was back in town subbing for Lynne, who is out recuperating her ankle.  In the match Craig & Kyle went out to an early lead, but Mark & Tony hung in with them.  The match went down to the last hole where Mark & Tony pulled even to draw the match.  Mark tied for low net of the week.

Match 4 was a real battle.  In the rematch of last year's championship pairing, Dan & Bob had revenge on their minds (well, sort of...).  The two teams took turns winning alternate holes over the first four.  Then the teams halved the next 3 holes.  Finally Dan & Bob took #8.  The teams drew the final hole, giving Dan & Bob the victory.

Match 5 was a one-sided affair as Nick started the year right by tying for low net of the week.  He and Adrian took this to win over Cal and James, who will now be warmed up and ready for next week.

The final match was partly played in the dark.  Unfortunately none of the players had night vision goggles so only 8 holes were played.  I put in "dummy scores" for the teams so that they received a half point each for Hole #9.  In the end, Mike & sub Joe Vetrone defeated Colm and sub John Vergo by two points for the victory.  Joe had a very nice first week, and might have won or tied for low net of the week had he finished.

A few words about the league schedule:  It was designed so that each team will play approximately the same number of early, middle and late tee times.  I noticed that Team 12 was playing in one of the last two pairings in both Weeks 1 & 2, so I have switched the week 2 and 3 schedules to give them a break with the sun going down so early.

See you next week.  Again, try to keep the play moving so that we can get all of the matches completed before dark.

Low Actual:  Scott Stetler with a 39

Low Net:  Nick Cavallaro and Mark Zarick with 33

Hardest Hole:  #9 at 2.5 over par.

Easiest Hole:   #7 at 1.1 over par.
