travel summary 22 dec 03 - 2 jan 04:
kl-bangkok
we took air asia flight from klia to penang on 22 dec. arrived butterworth 11.30 am and our train departed butterworth for bangkok at 2.00 pm. we got a not-bad sleeper coach
bangkok-siem reap
we arrived bangkok almost noon the next day. slept quite well in the train actually. we decided (after much trouble) to take the 3.30 am bus to aranyaprathet. with no sleep, we went to the morchit bus station at 2 am and unfortunately the bus at 3.30 was full. took the 4 am bus instead and slept all the way to Aranyaprathet. arrived about 8 am the next morning and straight away head to the border. got into a bit of trouble getting a taxi at poipet. managed to get one for 1200 baht and the ride to siem reap took 3 hours. arrived siem reap around 1 noon on 24 dec and ended up at naga guest house. we just didnt care anymore we wanted to sleep!
siem reap-phnom penh
after much deliberation and no planning, we decided to leave siem reap on 26 dec. we got a decent toyota camry for 50$ (we thought that's not a bad deal!) until the car got a flat tyre 1 1/2 hours into the journey, we were in the middle of nowhere, no lights, it was dirt road, the driver didn't speak english, he had a spare tyre but no jack so we ended up trying to flag down any car passing by.. honestly it was quite scary... but after all that we arrived phnom penh 11.30 pm and was welcomed by a completely stoned mr. william at king's guest house.
phnom penh-bangkok-koh tao
after less than 24 hours in phnom penh we decided to head for the beaches of thailand. took bangkok airways to bangkok on 27 dec and after a couple of minutes at khao san road we got a taxi to chumpon. drove all night and arrived the next day. by 10 on 28 dec we were on koh tao. it was just insane!!!
