Mystic Order of Druids

~*~ Lifetimes ~*~

by Sionnach

And so it goes that, once again, the seasons turn.
Once more, the bright, warm mornings give way to the early mists of autumn and the green which we now take for granted fades, allowing other, earthier colours to show.

As the first leaves start to fall, curling at the edges and showing red, yellow and brown, the squirrel can more easily be seen collecting the bounty of nuts and seeds that ensure the future of so much.

There are no more sightings of the swallow, swift and martin-they have departed for distant lands and more temperate breezes.

All that was so recently floral is now displaying the shiny form and shape of fruit, aril and berry, offering life to the largest and smallest creatures alike.

The time of rest is drawing near, with duller, greyer days providing the blanket of gentle mists under which the slumber will take place and wild, windy nights of storm, blasting across the land like an avenging fury, seeking out the unworthy.

Perhaps, later on, it will snow-another blanket, white this time and less easily torn by the passage of breeze or gale, but as gentle as earlier fogs, though it could, instead, lash out in stinging torrents, or hard, cold hail, violence and flood replacing peaceful beauty.

The seas may rise in contest with the land, neither to win, nor ultimately lose, but in constant change over untold years, both far less permanent than our brief span will allow us to see.

Rivers will rise and break their banks, snaking out like huge silvery reptiles across the land, only to drain away back into steep-sided channels flowing to the restless, blue-green ocean and there continuing their cycle.

All these things are part of the great renewal, as the turn continues, taking the proper time and completing the great circle of all things, restoring again that which has been restored so many times.
