When you choose or are chosen by a teacher that will be long term, pay close attention to your inner voice and feelings. Do you feel like you are on a quest? Is there the feeling of finding your village, of coming home? Moods may vary up and down. This is natural, but...Do you in general feel comfortable within your heart. Do you trust your teacher? Even a good teacher cannot work without some degree of trust, unless this happens to be a lesson in trust itself. If you do not trust or are not comfortable then keep looking or go back to your former means of learning. Do not allow yourself to be so desperate for enlightenment that you will accept anything that comes from someone claiming to be your superior as true and good. There is a lot of darkness out there masquerading as light. This can be particularly dangerous to those who are seeking to be Persons of Power. My point is, do not deceive yourself. Listen to your heart. Seek the light in all things. Peace comes from this road. Do not blame yourself if you step into the dark though. Pick yourself up, and go on. There was a lesson there. If you learned it then maybe you can avoid another fall. In essence, Feel good about what you are learning. That is GOOD, not ambivalent. Remember, there a lot of villages to learn from. One may feel like home now but there may be another farther up, to be discovered when the restlessness to see more of the mountain comes back. As in life there may be many fondly remembered homes before we get to the one that is our personal peak.

Another missed opportunity for learning surrounds us all of the time. Look at the people you know. I had to grow up to realize that my mother and father were both valuable teachers. Mother with her spiritual nature, Dad and his practicality and chivalry. Every person that you love hate or even notice is a teacher. Are you learning from them? If your dislike someone think of them as a mirror or a lesson. Are you seeing something that you dislike in yourself or is there something you need to learn to deal with here? You will keep running into this type of person until you learn the lesson they hold. Is there someone you admire? What do they do that makes you notice. What should you learn from them? Perhaps this is your teacher and because they are not hugely mystical or magical, you simply overlook them. Perhaps you do not need a big deal official teacher at this point. Think about it . If you had a teacher, would you put your mind and heart on unquestioning hold and accept anything they told you? Would you LEARN or would you just memorize? Are you ready for a teacher or could you be learning the things you need to know now? A good teacher will let you learn, will give you experiences so that you do understand, not just parrot.

Over the course of my life I have known some very impressive teachers and Shamen. Many times I didn1t have a clue. Growing up I had a music teacher who was an amazing man who radiated kindness and love. This man was a Rosicrution of many many years standing and a friend of Ralph Spencer Lewis. He and my mother would spend hours talking. She always left brighter and lighter. The bits and pieces I overheard were concerned with healing of personalities, bodies, and the planet. Auras, vibrations, metaphysics and mysticism were discussed at length. I wandered around the store playing with the harps, banjos, or old pump organs while they talked. I wish now that I had paid closer attention. How much I missed, but how much I gained. I was far too young to listen with intent and not become bored and tuned out. Perhaps there was a plan in these open conversations taking place near me. Mother and I sometimes discussed the subjects that caught my attention and I absorbed the rest into my subconscious where it remains to nudge me along and to authenticate ideas I am only now reexamining. The lesson here is never underestimate how much a child absorbs when they are not coerced into attention.

This chapter is on hold for awhile. I will get back to it but I am currently on hold having some life lessons of my own. See recent additions. I will be journaling some as i work through this. My valley is deep and my vision is limited here. The bitterness will have to be drained and the lessons learned. There is always a sunny spot up there somewhere.
