previous fight. He took brunt of the Cone of Cold that the sorcerer cast from behind them ... the bastard had doubled back. Judging by the surprised look on his frosty face, Mar was likely already communing with his god before he knew what hit him.

In front of Conor, Whiff and Ariana were coming to their feet after having their horses frozen out from beneath them as well. Kaldes and Monj quickly turned their horses and rushed back.

The mage ran to the side of the trail and was quickly intercepted by a speedy Monjhi, Unfortunately, he couldn't follow it up with a clean hit. In the meantime, Ariana approached from a different direction with her swords out and ready. But before she could do any significant damage, he unloaded another Cone of Cold and took her down hard. She looked better than Mar, but was just as dead after the frosty mist cleared.

Finally, in a fit of fury over the loss of his companions, Kaldes rushed the son-of-a-bitch and scored a blow that nearly cleaved the man from head to toe. However, the satisfaction of victory quickly devolved to sorrow and anger for their lost comrades.

They quickly and none-too-gently separated the wizard from his belongings and, knowing that the only hope of raising Ariana and Mar would be in Mosstone, they arranged the bodies and themselves on the remaining horses and began the trip back.

As they passed Ujaset's cave, they saw him sitting before the entrance, as ever, poised and regal. They walked the horses up to him.

"You avenged me well my friends" he rumbled. "Although I see not without a high price of your own." He looked upon the still frozen bodies of Mar and Ariana with visible sorrow.

"Is there nothing you can do?" Dane asked.

"Alas there is nothing that I can do from this side of the veil. However, although this will not balanced the scales, I would like to offer what little I can. Come." With that final command, Ujaset gracefully stood and walked into what used to be his home and led the group to the back of
