Crusty Magic

Eleint 14

From the Journal of Mar Salac:

We've basically been relaxing for the last week or so. Monjhi and Kaldes have been sparing, Conor's been playing the local inns ... all of them, Dane and Whiff have had there heads together talking spells and whatnot, and nobody's really seen Portia. Ariana has been spending much of her time in the wood and I've been splitting my time between training Ne'ek and meditating on these strange new powers that I've been developing of late trying to find where or even how they fit into my life and the lives of my companions.

Right after our morning meal, Dane and Whiff said that they were going to walk  north a ways and visit a pair of "wise and powerful" mages to talk of their craft and possibly learn some new spells. Not having anything better to do I opt to join them as does Ariana.

So off we went for a brisk morning walk. It took us about four hours to reach the small village that the mages call home and another few minutes to find their actual home.

As we approached, the first thing we noticed was the wonderfully aromatic smell of baking bread. Not having had our mid-meal yet, all of our stomachs set to growling like ... well ... a pack of hungry beasts.

As we rounded a fine looking picket fence and started up the walkway to the front door, Ne'ek started growling and her hackles went stiff. At the same time Dane noticed that there were signs of a struggle in the yard with what looked like drag marks (from a body?) heading toward the door.

Ariana looked closely at the surroundings, but could only determine that there'd been a struggle with the last few hours. There were no other identifiable tracks .
