Kholum the Swift

We also spent some time coming up with some contingency plans on the oft chance that things don't go well (kinda like the druid's eventual survival plan), but Dane confidently said that "It wouldn't come to that."

Where have I heard that before???

We traveled out just after mid-day, hauling a canoe for the trip across the water (never mind that none of us has ever used one before ... we actually had to tell Mar what it was ...

Kaldes piped up in his usual manner, "We should bring a canoe for the lake." He could be very matter-of-fact. "We don't want to have to send Monjhi in to 'test' the water again like the last time. His wounds are only just healing up."

Mar leaned over and whispered into my ear, "What's a canoe?"

I about fell off my chair I was laughing so hard, "You don't know what a canoe is?" I was not being especially discreet as most of the patrons in the common room were now looking at us. Ah ... an audience ... goodie.

Speaking very slowly in my best stage voice, "It's ... a ... boat. Now .. I know there wasn't much water over there in the desert, but you must have seen one in a book somewhere ... You did have books right?"

Mar turned a very exciting shade of red. "Shut up! I know what a boat is ..." He promptly turned his back on me ... and the rest of the room, and concentrated very hard on the rest of the group, who were themselves trying very hard not to laugh.

That was almost as much fun as making fun of K-aldes.

Anyway, we arrived near (but not too near) the lake by sundown, canoe in tow and made camp.
