| Booking a concert 101: This section gives you a brief overview of the steps to be taken in order to have a successful concert event 1. Organize a group of committed individuals who share your passion and desire for this event. While it IS possible to promote a concert single-handedly, it is much easier to have a group with which to share the responsibilities. Be prepared to hold fund-raisers and solicit funds from various sources to help cover costs; it is not wise to rely on ticket sales alone to cover expenses. 2. Select a date. Prime dates are weekends, i.e. Fridays and Saturdays, but My Own Sky is willing to play any date provided advance notice is given. Check with other area venues, churches, radio stations, convention bureaus and promoters for conflicting events. Check availability of venues (school & municipal auditoriums, church halls, coffeehouses, etc.) 3. Contact Tim Serdynski (info below) for booking. After a date and cost is agreed upon, he will send a written contract with all the particulars. Thoroughly read the rider and contract to make sure you can fulfill it. Sign and return contract, along with a deposit.(if specified) 4. Book and confirm: Venue Sound equipment Lighting equipment Hotel (if specified) 5. Contact and enlist the help from the following for promotions and day-of-show work: Record Stores Radio stations Bookstores Area venues, churches, coffee houses Youth organizations 6. Design posters, flyers, mailers, tickets, news articles and other promotional material. 7. Advertise!!! Distribute mailings and flyers Hang posters and banners throughout the area Run radio spots Run newspaper articles/ads Run magazine articles/ads Publish news articles Distribute tickets to outlets 8.
