Terms of Agreement

The terms of agreement or copyright information is common in most manga/anime web sites as it must take quite some time to design and make them. Thus if you intend to make one, it might be worth putting this section in also.

I have found this section on every site I visit, They may be:

  1. on this page
  2. on a separate page as the example below shows.

I have given a example of terms of agreement on a separate page as some may use quite lengthy ones.

Notice the blank space below

Because manga/anime pages are a work of art, there is rarely blank space as there is here. The reason for this blank space (below) is that "my own voice" section is of a variable length and thus sort of wrecks the balance of the page to some degree.

Who Am I ?

  • Name:               Gharr

  • Sex:                   Unknown

  • Age:                  100 Yrs

  • Birth Date:         01 Jan 1900

  • Height:               20m

  • Weight:              1000 Kg

  • Favourite Food: Shrimp

You can put additional information about yourself here. For example:

I like to regularly dive 1 Km below sea level.

My Own Voice

In most manga/anime style web pages this section is a scrollable window. I do not like this concept, I prefer the western method of links to other web pages and a non scrollable area.

Part of the reason I do not like Japanese scrollable windows is that they are so skinny, but that may be to give a effect of the scroll like artwork and lettering that Japanese like to hang on their walls.

A scrollable section often occurs if frames are used. The advantage of a frame is that you can link it to another web site and change only that web site. For example if you have a blog site, you could use a frame to display it as done here:

Once the frame is displayed in the document, I can change it any time by simply writing new stuff into the blog site. The changes would be reflected here on this web site. Of course this method can slow the loading of the web page

The disadvantage of making the main page part of your narration is that the strict size control might be lost and this will wreck the look of the page. The reason for the strict control of the page design seems to be due to the manga/anime web page being a completed art work and this includes the web pages dimensions that is the dimensions of the web page are set once the art work is completed.

There are anime web pages out there that use western style web pages with navigation buttons.

The headings on this web page

Who Am I?

This section is also common in western style web pages but is usually put on a separate page. The "Who Am I ?" is really just a short bio.

It can be expanded to include other facts about yourself.

Links Of Interest

Links of interest are unusual in the western style because they tend to be graphical artistic buttons. Manga/anime web pages usually just include the graphic, but some like here also include a extended and separate page with a description next to the graphic. I have altered this for my own convenience and done away with the seperate web page.

Such buttons are commonly called affiliate buttons.

Affiliate buttons have a mixture of emotive web site names and a zoomed in picture of a featured character (giving the feeling the character has entered your personal space) on the web site. This results in the subtle affect on the viewer of the site. The viewer makes an emotional investment of the featured character and the web site itself. This method is also used in manga comics and anime.

Additional Links

I am not sure why this section is supplied in manga/anime web sites, but I suppose not everyone has a affiliate buttons and you have to reference them some place.

The other option for this is that you can archive all the old "my own voice" text. When archiving, it is usually done by month and year since it is not typical for most writers to add new material more then once or twice a week.

Lost In The Spires

Most manga/anime web page names are unusual and sometimes disturbing. This is perhaps a reflection that manga/anime can be exactly the same. The picture would normally set the theme for the whole web page art and would dictate the type of colours that can be used elsewhere. I have not used color coordination here (at least not on purpose).

As mentioned above, the web site name is incorporated into the featured picture (one or more characters usually) and is probably designed to combine with the art work and cause a emotional investment by the viewer of the web site.

Manga/anime web pages are often of commercial quality and would not look out of place in a magazine or as a display on a shop window. It is for this reason that the artists request you respect their copyright notices. I have done this reluctantly since creating a manga/anime style page is not an easy task. I imagine to make this even close to the pages I have seen would require a week of solid work for me and I do not have that time allowance right now.

Nearly every manga/anime web page seems acknowledge who gives them them the web space, regardless of if it is free or purchased. Perhaps this is a reflection of how business is done. Certainly the blog site shown above gives me no choice in displaying that the site is powered by blog.com .

Perhaps the other option is that web sites designed by manga/anime web designers are forced to use templates (like on the my blog page) and that could be the other possibility for the uniformity in the web sites I have seen.
