Utada started out as Cubic U (her american anme). Both of her parents had a musical history. Her dad was a music producer and her mom a singer. After they discovered Hikki's talent, they decided to become a group - U3 (the 3 Utada's) which was later changed to Cubic U.. She then went solo and made it big in Japan from her first cd - First Love, which sold over 5 million records and many singles. She has appeared on many tv shows. She is pretty well known in the U.S too after releasing many of her English singles and a record. Her new single "Time Limit" have become a big hit.
