FAQs
1. Why should I buy from
MyDiscus Fish as there are
traders and suppliers in the United States or anywhere else that I'm
from?
- Most suppliers are third
country middlemen getting their supply from countries such as Malaysia,
Indonesia and Thailand. Buying from the source means less handling, lower
mortality, less stress, and healthier fish. Cost of handling is also
minimized. Our local handling cost is among the cheapest in the world.
Less stress means Discus will be able to acclimatize to new environment
faster. - Unlike fish traders, we breed most of our own Discus
fish, therefore, health and quality of our Discus
is ensured. We do stock up certain Discus
strains bred by our associate farms in case we run out of stock. We pay
top dollars for super high-grade breeding pairs so that the offspring has
the highest quality too. Once we received any order, we hand-select our
fishes personally so as to ensure the highest grade for your money's
worth. Second grade stock will be sold to the local market at discounted
prices.
- We quarantine our stocks
purchased from associate breeders weeks before it is sold to customers. Therefore, disease outbreaks are immediately known and proper measures are
taken. The fishes are also nursed back to perfect health condition after
travelling from our associate breeder's farms to our farm. At MyDiscus Fish,
only fishes of the highest quality are sold. To this end, deformed or
diseased stocks are often culled.
- We do not have the limitation
of four seasons. MyDiscus Fish is able to breed and supply Discus throughout
the year due to the tropical weather. Our weather is hot and humid and it
is the same as the place where Discus fish originate (near the equator). Therefore, our fishes enjoy the closest weather conditions as to its
natural habitat than any other places in the world. Also, because of
favourable water conditions in our state, the quality of our stock far
surpasses stocks from many other farms. (Penang Island, Malaysia is world-reknowned for its high-grade Discus fish!) On top of that, we change
our water at least twice a day from our conditioned tanks to further
encourage "happy and healthy" fishes.
- Tropical weather in Malaysia
throughout the year also makes live feed easily available. Compared to
dried pellets, live feed makes Discus grow faster and ensures the Discus
gets all the nutrients and vitamins needed for a radiant colour. Grind
beef heart is also a big part of our Discus' diet.
- More than a
decade of experience in packing and conditioning procedures of Discus for
export. Density of each pack of fish according to sizes of and length of
the journey carefully studied and recorded to ensure low or zero mortality
on arrival.
2. How do I make payment for my
order(s) Minimum order is 40 heads of
Discus and payment can be made with "Telegraphic Transfer". Orders
will be sent once payment is received. This
is to minimize the time and cost needed for check
clearance.
3. Once payment is made,
when will I receive my order? Once payment has been received
on our side, an e-mail or fax detailing the date of the shipment, airport
of discharge, and the estimated time of arrival will be sent to you.
4.
What happens if some of the fish arrives dead? Accidents do happen. All necessary measure will be taken to ensure
fish arrives healthy. In the event that some fish arrives dead, pictures
of the dead fishes clearly showing the number will have to be sent within
three(3) days of the date of arrival. The number of dead fishes will be
replaced in your next order.
5. Are there any restrictions
in importing in life fish? Yes, most countries will
require some form of permits and/or documents. We need to know the permits
and/or documents before shipping the orders. Refund for death of the
Discus due to delays in clearance will not be entertained. We will ensure
all documents and/or permits are in order according to the information
provided by you.
6. Are there any other charges
I have to incur? All shipping charges will be
borned by you. MyDiscus Fish ships in 2 standard packs, depending on the
number of fishes. 40 heads (approx. 14 kg) will be US$60.00.
7. I have noticed that you only
sell Discus in 2 inches size. Do you sell any other sizes?
Yes. Occasionally, we do have certain strains that we have
overstocked but sizes other than 2 inches. We also, at times, have larger
Discus strains that we acquire at a good price from our associate
breeders. We will only put these on offers to our customers or mailing
list subscribers.
However, MOST of the Discus
strains we showcase at MyDiscus Fish come in 2 inch sizes. There are several
reasons why we do this. - Price - the difference in price for a 3 inch
Discus compared to a 2 inch fish is more than double sometimes triple
depending on Discus strains. - The demand for 2" fishes often keep our
stocks limited because most often, our fishes are shipped even before they
get any bigger!. We decided not to raise our fishes to anything bigger
than 2" because of the time and capital involvement. Because of this
reason too, most of our associate breeders share the same principal, thus
limiting the stock of anything bigger than 2". - Exporting Discus of
this size allows the fish more time to acclimatize to the new environment,
weather, diet, and water condition better. - Most importantly, the pride and joy of seeing your Discus grow.
8. I am a first time buyer, what do I have to do?
Please check with your custom
office for the specific documents needed for the import of tropical fish.
Some form of import license may be needed or through a licensed
agent/broker.
9. What do I have to do if I place my order in winter, will
you still send the my order? Yes! Discus fish loves hot tropical weather. Steps to be taken to
ensure your Discus is healthy : - Please ensure your aquarium is ready
and adequately heated - Upon collecting your Discus from the airport,
open the sealed pack and place heat packs* into the pack and reseal the
pack immediately. - Once home, do not pour Discus into the tank
immediately. Instead, place the Discus (Discus is individually packed)
still in the plastic bag into the tank for 15 - 20 minutes to allow the
Discus to slowly acclimatize to the tank temperature. * heat packs are
commercially available at hardware stores some pet stores
