Old Fashioned Beef Stew
3 C chuck beef ( chunks )
1 C flour
1/2 oil
1 medium onion ( chopped )
1/2 C celery ( chopped with leaves )
1 C wheat grain or barley
1 gallon of water
11/2 t salt
1 t black pepper
2 C potatoes ( bite sized )
1 C carrots ( sliced )
1 C frozen corn
1 C frozen peas

Potato Dumplings

Coat chunks of beef in flour. Fry in oil until brown using a nice sized soup pot. Add onion fry together for two minutes. Add celery, wheat, water, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, turn on low heat and boil for about two hours.  Scrape bottom of pot well while cooking.

Add the rest of ingredients. Cook until potatoes and carrots are soft. Add more water and salt if desired.

When the soup is done, dumplings may be added.
