Ode to an Angel

If I could ask for just one thing in this life,
It would be to look once again upon your shining face;
Into those eyes that held such love for me,
The lips emitting only the wisest counsel or most joyous laughter.
Daddy, you were everything to me, my One, my Only,
Somehow you made everything seem alright;
Wrapped in your warm arms, I felt so safe.
No harm could touch me there, no pain, no tears.
O, dear Daddy, your memory burns like fire through my entire being,
Yet chills me to the bone, as ice running down my spine.
To think that I shall never again look upon you tears my heart to pieces.
The warmth of your chocolate eyes could be compared only to the sun,
Melting the coldest of hearts into a pool of tender love.
You were a flame, spreading warmth all through my being,
Enlightening my soul, bringing life and purpose to my dreary existence.
O, Daddy, friend, counselor, dearest of all,
I would give anything to have you here with me,
To listen once more to the soothing sound of your voice,
Like ocean waves or a bubbling spring beneath my feet.
Where you are now is infinitely better than this world will ever be,
So I will be content with what you have been given.
I will see you again, and until then I give you these words;
Daddy, my dear, dear Daddy, I love you
You are in my heart now and forever,
Keeping it beating with the pulse of love that we share.
Good-bye Daddy, I'll see you soon.
