	30-1-01 Gettin' a job in Melbourne takes a bit longer than expected. It seems it's a bit of a rough time for everybody. I set some things up over the last week and now have decided to go to Tasmania to wait it out and return later. Meanwhile I met up with some new and old friendfs at the hostel dis a hotdog eating competition, pool competition and even karaoke (some Canadian girl won by the way but who got the biggest cheer form the crowd?? ok) Anyway I fly to Launceston later todat so this concludes the January chapter. See ya in February :-) 24-1-01 Arrived in Melbourne yesterday and I am staying in the biggest hostel ever (600 beds). Very loud, alive and crowded (and therefor a lot of information sources) but also a bit cramped at times (and unpersonal). The trip from Adelaide to Melbourne with OZ Experience was allright. Mostly due to the fact that we had a very cool driver (thanks Luke) and a positive relaxed group of people to. The trip took 4 days and we did the Coorong National park, Grampians, Port Campbell National Park, Great Ocean Road. We stayed in an old Jail, played a few games of paintball, did some old fashion camping and games by the fireplace (yes it get's cold in the Grampians at night) and man... it was really the best. I had a bit mixed feelings about not being totally mobile and flexible (having a car...) but I didn't feel like a Japanese in a bus driving from windmill to windmill if you get my drift. We had fun and laughter (and a lot of beer haha) The scenery was spectacular just 20 people bus and not cramped so OK. Swimmed in a waterfall lake, climbed rockformations, walked into a cave, saw koalas up close and a big seal enjoying himself at the beach of Apollo Bay, riding the wave (?). Visiting the famous Bells Beach was a bit dissapointing to be honest but special anyhow to be there. What a surfspot! Made some nice pictures on this trip which will be up on the site end of this week. Met more people and now the main goal is settling down a little and find a job. See how it is to actually live and work in Australia. 19-1-01 Fuck this...Oh yes I too had my doubts and yes it happend. The engine exploded (I am allright though) so got a dead car, sold it for 200 bucks to a garage and, after meeting some very helpful country folk (thanks Scott, Jacob and Trish) I am now, still laughing, back in Adelaide and actually had one of the best days yet today going wakeboarding the whole day!! Tomorrow I am going to Melbourne (by bus) so catch up with you all there. Adelaide and surroundings are very nice though and if gettin' a job in Melbourne doesn't work I will hed back here (and do some more wakeboarding sessions. oh yes). Enough about the car ok? ok? Enjoy Life... 17-1-01 Finally I found a place were they scanned my pictures so look at the picture gallery page! I am now in Victor Harbour just cruisin' the South Australia Eyre Peninsula: beautifull. Wanted to go up to Kangaroo Island but they tell me there isn't much to do because of bush fires. The hostel in Adelaide was ok but sleeping in the car has it's charmes too. Wakeboarding is still on the wishlist. The search continues (lot of private owners but no schools so maybe better luck in the weekend or Friday). Anyway saw a pelican today (massive) and have been to parks and mountains. Now I wanna hook up with some fellow travellers in Mount Gambier to accompany me to Melbourne. 13-1-01 O'right it has been a while. Internet access is a more (time) expensive good in Adelaide. The traintrip to Adelaide was wicked. Enormous amount of legspace, good scenery and views (kangaroos, emus and desert) and good company. Met a Kiwi snowboarder and his US girlfriend. Also in the middle of the night when the train stopped in Orange a loser Aussie alcoholist weirdo with the thickest glasses ever boarded and...yes had the seat NEXT TO ME. Next morning he moved to the smoking area with a six pack and was not seen much since. Talked with the Kiwi about snowboarding in US and New Zealand. Sweet. Made a hour stop in Broken Hill, an opal mining town in the middele of the desert (45 C degrees). Since arriving in Adelaide there has been a heat wave (again) with temp between 39 and 42 C degrees. But it 's allright because it very dry and there's a nice breze. Adelaide is very laid back (the most relaxed bigger city in Australia and very liberal on drugs, alcohol and prostitution). The hostel is ok but the beds are bad!! Big news: I bought a car: Ford Falcon V6 Stationwagon from this German dude (he talks a lot!! and that from my mouth...) he is ok though and the car too (good deal it seems). Checked out the "scene" with local Dan (a friend of Dave's), good dance and DJ's lot of funck and drum and rythem. Today did soem shopping for the travellingby car. I am excited as hell. My own "roadmovie" starts now! 7-1-01 This week I stayed in a hostel in the city centre and one day in Kings Cross (it' all true what they say, what a shithole and I was right in the middle of it haha). A very good experience indeed. Living in a hostel has been fun. A lot of new travelling friends: Dutchies, Canadians, Scottish, English, Kiwis and your occassional Aussie. Goin' out, beers and BBQ' on the sundeck, beach and just have fun (holiday). Bought a train ticket to Adelaide today. Leave monday afternoon for 26 hours!! The road trip plan with Dave's car fell through. Yesterday met up with Floor (NL) and Brett (Aus), only briefly but it was good. I forgot my camera on the new years party but now finally got it back to shoot some pics at the hostel. Excited about tomorrow and I must say I' m glad to leave Sydney for a while but... I'l be back! 2-1-01 Happy new year! Couldn't really get very close to the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge Fireworks (people go sit there from 5 pm on....fences, police... crazy shit) but it was pretty good anyway. Nobody here buys firework for themselves like in Holland. The party with Dave's friends at Iris house was good, afterparty in the city to, the lot. All of you keep up the good work and enjoy 2001 I'm going to sleep now...last week Sydney before I goin' on the road!
