Helper Characters
This is a particularly interesting feature of Marvel vs. Capcom. Several characters from the earlier games have been brought back, along with some new ones, to help out the main characters. A new partner is selected randomly by the computer for every new match. Knowledge of how to use them will prove to be a very valuable skill in this game!
How to call a Helper Character
MP+MK
Apparently there is a limit to the number of times you can use this attack. An icon will appear near the top of your screen telling you how many helper attacks that you have left. During the beginning of the fight, you will have a certain number of helper attacks at your disposal. It differs for every helper depending on the damage that they do. Some are more effective than others.
Tips for Using Helpers
Helpers are great! You can use them to distract your opponent, to get you out of corner traps or for comboing supers that otherwise would be impossible to set up. Imagine War Machine, being able to combo a Proton Cannon! Ouch! As soon as you see the helper attack connect, pull off your most painful super. Details will be provided in each characters strategy and combo sections.
Tips for Fighting Helpers
Helper characters have incredible dominance and priority. If you're being attacked by a helper, forget about trying to hit em unless it's Arthur or Sentinel cause first of all, they won't die and second of all, you'll probably get hit by their attack. If you do manage to hit them though, the helper won't attack at all and your opponent would have wasted a summon. The smartest thing to do though would be to either block or throw out a beam super.
Helper Ratings
I've decided to rate the effectiveness of the helpers. Now this might not be entirely accurate but this is my own opinion. Anyways, here's how I judged them.
Class A - Helper attack comes out extremely quickly. Usually neutralizes fireballs and combos easily, setting up almost any kind of super while doing good damage. The best offensive helpers that one can get.
Class B - Helper attack is somewhat slow, but can still be used as a surprise. Will combo, though it might be slightly difficult to do so. Should be mostly used for defense and keep away though it does have it's uses for offense.
Class C - Helper attack takes forever to get out. Opponent must be brain dead to be hit by it. Usually does good damage but the hit ratio makes the other helpers more valuable. Mostly for defense and keep away only. Very difficult to combo.
